I’m going to wait till after New Year to even think about booking anything.

I’m lucky in that I have access to free accommodation in the Portes Du Soleil (Champery). So if I’m allowed to travel I’ll either book a flight or fill the RS4’s tank a couple of time (OK probably more than a couple wink)
Did you know that you would currently have to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in CH?

Mt. Norquay (Banff, Alberta) resort opens this weekend. First resort in Canada to open this season and their earliest opening in 95 years. La Niña kicking off then smile

Only issue with Canada is - hasn’t it’s borders been st since March20 and there is no sign for those to be opened up meaning it’s only the lucky folk who live in Canada who can enjoy those slopes.
There's now limited entry at Calgary Airport and at the Coutts Crossing. Entry is subject to certain restrictions but quarantine can be much reduced for applicable travellers.

Well thats me not skiing in 21. Our whole group voted to move the trip. We had 1st week of Jan 21 booked, iirc Feb this year. Skiworld have been quite good so we will stick with them for the next season.

I cannot see us going either now, we like the first week post New Year, but cannot see France changing quickly, with bars closed, early curfew, and now 45k cases a day...

Switzerland also upping the restrictions in some cantons - Valais has gone hardest. (Includes all PDS resorts, Verbier, and a few others). Masks everywhere, all leisure facilities shut, team sports banned, all bars closed - table service only and with a 10pm curfew, some schools closing, That’s on top of the 10 day quarantine.

I think their hope is by going hard now cases might come down in 8 weeks before the ski season starts. Some hope, but I guess the best they can do.

I think your right - ski resorts golden goose is New Years and then Feb half terms.

Now it must be quiet normally in every resort/countless not yet open so it’s only impacting locals who will be massively impacted if the ski season is compromised.

The Army has cancelled all winter sports so resorts such as Neustift in Stubai will be struggling. We used to take around 500 people a week for 5 weeks in Nov/Dec and that was just the REME. RE did the same down the road in Fulpmes, Infantry in Val D'isere, Cav in Verbier, Artillery in Les Deux Alp etc etc.

Just our accommodation in Stubai for one Chalet was 21,000 Euros (in Nov remember) plus nearly 15000 Euros spent down the road in Denifl buying kit.

Not to mention money spent in the bars and restaurants.

All gone for this season.

That just got me remembering The Yagdehute. If you're ever in Stubai the deep fried Camembert starter followed by the fillet steak is a must.

Has anyone ever tried Skiing in South America which would be Say a Jun to early September ski season.

Much higher resorts and I’d wager far fewer tourists

Was at Aconcagua a few years ago in November. The snow around 3000m had melted by then but I saw one or two of their resorts.

The ones I saw were small, 1-10 lifts range. Looked like there could be some decent skiing but not many facilities. Probably comparable to some scottish resorts just 3000m higher.

English is not widely spoken and even simple things like getting cash out can be a pain. When I was there you were limited to 80 dollars a day withdrawals from cash machines.

Argentina is one of those countries that makes you realise things work pretty well in the UK.

Went to Chile to which is more first world but didn't see any of their resorts.

If I was to travel a long way to go skiing/snowboarding I think I'd head to Japan.

Except you can't go.

"Short-term visitors who have been in the UK and other select countries in the last 14 days are currently unable to enter Japan, unless they are travelling for business purposes or in exceptional circumstances."

I'd usually be looking at a pre crimbo trip out to the alps this time of year & an early year one pre holiday season. Not happening obviously.

Having been a Scottish regular & big fan for the last few years, it can be really epic. Just you can't plan in advance for Scotland. The weekends are going to be busy this year for sure, if they stay open.

I did the last day at the Coe this year, still have my "Virus" ticket from that last fateful day before lockdown biggrin the snow was just epic.

Sweden? They've been largely against lockdowns so far, and no quarantine when coming back into the UK.

The Lake District Ski Club have temporarily halted accepting new members in anticipation of a busy winter.

Not sure they can stop you skiing off Helvellyn. If really desperate in Derbyshire you can ski off Mam Tor.

All you need is...er...snow.

I had to turn down a (would have been first ever) ski trip to Japan in Feb this year, on the basis that "I'll be able to make it next year tho......" frown
