Well, 10 days after application submitted at Post Office, I've had a text telling me my application has been received. Theres a line saying its taking longer than normal to process applications but all the same, I'm taking this to be a good sign...

Little update...

Finally my application is approved.. From submission to approval was 35 Days I presume it will be sent out over the next day or two...so 37 days end to end.

Here's an updated summary.RO250 seems to have had the fastest so far.

I had some engagement with an HMPO office on Friday, the turnaround is wholly dependent on the office the application lands in, I am not sure online if this is postcode dependent. I know I sent my old passport to the Peterborough office.

Whilst getting through on the telephone is very difficult...at least it was last week, they do answer emails:

I may be winning but still no word on my Son's other than it's "being processed"!

Finally received today..so that was 38 days end to end.

Quite impressed by the new features.

Without question it is a very pleasant navy blue..some embossing to the rear.

Good luck to those still waiting..

I don’t get why some are burgundy and some get the new ones. No rhyme or reason.

Basically using up old stock at the different processing locations I imagine.

Two weeks from sending my sons renewal, last Monday I had confirmation it has been received but nothing since.

I need it back in five weeks so optimism is fading somewhat. I guess if I don't have something to make me very confident that it'll be back in time in another three weeks then we'll end up having to cancel as I don't want to be cancelling at the last minute. Stress levels are running high...

Contact them via twitter as I get the impression they expedite them for people who chase.

2nd cousin has had her application for first British passport (Australian citizen by birth) accepted this morning (Sunday), first application was put in 15th April, documents received 21st May, accepted 12th July.

Obviously this was a little more complex than a Passport renewal, but potentially the way a UK citizen will have for there first passport whether abroad or in the UK?

Do you mean that she is a second cousin, as opposed to a first cousin (you share grandparents)?

or

Do you mean that she is the second of your first cousins to have had her passport application accepted?

She is my second cousin as opposed to first cousin, we share great grandparents.

She is Australian, her dad was born in Britain as was her grandparents and the great grandparents.

She had always wanted to apply but wasn't sure where to start, So I did some research and turned out it was quite simple really fill in the online forms, send documents (birth certificates etc).

The info was just for anybody else in a similar position thinking of applying.

Son's renewal arrived today. Application made on 1st June, delivered 15th July.

I still say the new passports are black biggrin (and I'm not alone https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-51737116 )

Three weeks to the day since it was sent in by the Post Office, new passport has arrived. Pretty chuffed, and very relieved with that all things considered!

Sent my application to NZ House in London, it arrived there on Monday (13th) and DHL are delivering my passport on Monday (20th). Now that is some seriously excellent service! It even involved an email exchange with Auckland over a query. And that's not even their express service.
I appreciate there are a lot less Kiwis in the world, but that is amazing. The only thing I 'upgraded' was paying an extra £9 for DHL over the post office.
