Dusseldorf (info and current covid rules)
Discussion
A friend living in Dusseldorf has offered us the use of his house in Dusseldorf whilst he is away for a few weeks in August, we weren't planning to go away on holiday abroad this year even before Covid-19 as we've got a 1 year old.
However with this offer we're considering it either for a couple of nights as a couple or a week with the little one.
We're just wondering A) What restrictions are likely to be in place come August in regards to restaurants, tourist attractions and bars
B) what attractions people would recommend doing in and around the city.
many thanks

Can’t help with what to do whilst there - but I’ve been in and out of a few German cities recently and they’ve been a lot less locked down then in the uk. Restaurants have been open, bars and cafes open - a few were take away only or only outdoor seating but on the whole a lot less restricted than it has been here. Enjoy!
Not really much to do in Dusseldorf as such, but they have amazing pubs and Cologne is only 30 mins away on the train. In both places they keep bringing you beer until you put your coaster over the glass. Some more ideas here:

Dusseldorf is great. There is one 'strip' with all the bars down it called Altstadt. It's not a sleezy road, but great for a beer. There is the zoo, a tower that looks aver the Danube and the transport system is quite good. I enjoyed a few days there a couple of years ago.
I think you enjoyed a few too many altbiers if you thought you were looking at the Danube.Bezerk said:

most stuff is open with some restrictions, pubs, shops, restaurants etc, you need to wear a mask when moving about, sitting at a table you don't - sign in with name and address/phone no
open-air and indoor swimming pools, sign up beforehand on internet, zoos etc, buy tickets online (but there isn't a zoo in Düsseldorf itself anyway... only a fish/insect/lizard 'zoo', Cologne, Krefeld or Duisburg for the real thing)
theres a temp. 'pop-up' funfair at the moment, to make up for the usual big funfair by the Rhine, again, tickets online
Altstadt is quite busy again, not back to normal, but busy, all shops open, Königsallee designer stuff if that's your thing
Altstadt is about a suqre kilometre, more than just one road, plus there are several other areas for bars etc
let me know if you want to know anything else
