Lick finger, hold onto air, feel which way the wind’s blowing.

Also, Barbados is rather a lovely place to be. Some truly great restaurants, and some of the friendliest people on the planet, in my experience.
was high on my list too, was going to have american friends meet me there, but after bringing in the restrictions decided not to.

The requirement of being at a government designated hotel until the second test 4-5 days later put me off.

Persons from High-Risk countries with a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test result will be required to remain (with restricted movement) at a designated holding hotel or approved villa at their own expense, or free of charge at a government facility.
bolding mine.

In practise its probably fine, but I dont want to get to a hotel and find that their idea of restricted movement means your room only! In addition, its from a specific list of approved hotels only -though the list seems to be getting bigger.

Either way, its good there's a few options!

Very interesting, particularly this part

They will need to have a negative PCR test before they fly within 72 hours of their arrival time. Then a second test four to five days from when they took the original test, not when they arrived. With results coming overnight, this means that most people will not need to be at the quarantine hotel for more than three nights at the most.
Certainly not my ideal, but I think they've struck a good balance since a lot of people do go to barbados just to sit at the hotel. I had originally suggested barbados as a meeting place to american friends (since they're one of the few places allowing americans in), and then heading to the US together. But none of us are that interested in any quarantining.

Mexico is a better place for that plan. Go high end in Cancun or similar.

Oh I am, I fly into cancun 1st december. I'm only going to do a few days around there and then travel around for about 3 weeks. Prices are great now!

So to clarify, we can go for a holiday in Cancun pretty much as normal? I am very tempted to look at doing this if so.

Safer to read the FCO page to me.

Imagine getting to Mexico and finding out Piston heads was actually wrong (for once).

I’d just add that the rules are constantly changing so best check and book whatever last minute.

We still intend to go to Barbados then USA mid November which looks possible at the moment. We won’t be booking until a week or so before though.

We're in the same boat for Vegas but due to travel mid-March. Thankfully payment isn't due until mid Feb, but I can't see us being able to go.

I've lost touch with what's going on since we were able to cancel some months ago.

I did see someone on TheDibb forum (might be worth monitoring that if you don't already) claim they could walk to Gatwick, but I don't know how they got on. I've also seen people say the holiday would be substantially different to what they booked - but I guess that doesn't become clear until nearer the time.

If you don't want to go, and you also don't want to risk £4K, then I suppose the logical thing to do is cancel. If nothing else, it'll be out of your mind then.

TheDibb, unlike PH, normally allows companies to be named so you might be able to see how others have got on with the same firm.
The company has changed their stance now and have moved our holiday to the same time next year without losing £600.00 deposit.

Thank you for your help and replies
Shaun

Our existing annual travel insurance policy will cover us for Barbados. We just need to get cover for the USA. There are some insurance companies here that will do it or maybe we’ll use a USA based firm.
