Summer Holidays 2021
Discussion
I see Italy is imposing a 5 day mandatory quarantine period for arrivals from UK starting next Monday. No real surprise, but probably dashed our hopes of quick decision to take a city break maybe in the autumn. Italy are aligning with France and Germany. Won't surprise me of this becomes a EU wide requirement.

I've just had my 'summer' holiday in Scotland, flying up to Inverness from Bristol and back and travelling over to Skye for the week. Pretty chilly but had an absolutely awesome time. Would never have done it if travel abroad (my flights were originally for Slovenia) had been an option, but so glad I did.
I find the inconsistencies baffling, obviously no social distancing (on the plane or at the airport), no temperature checks, no tests required etc, full plane with 200 on board. Yet, vast open motorsport venues are still running to incredibly strict rules with strict capacity limits.
Masks aside, interior travel is basically like it was pre-pandemic.

France have now relaxed mask wearing outside as well as ending their nighttime curfew so some normality there (for now!)R.

If you're driving on holiday in England during the school holidays, book your place in the traffic jam now and plan your route so you don't need to turn right across the flow. Also for HGV drivers, please try to stay on your wheels not on your side on a busy junction (Dorset today)
Also city/town dwellers if your heading down country lanes learn to reverse and you might have to stick your car into a few hedges .Don't refuse as you deem your car more valuable and just sit there eyes glazed over looking at everything other than the other car/tractor/milk tanker/ bus

I can get a week in Crete flying from Exeter on 18th August for three of us for £1200. What do you reckon? Worth a punt?
What's the worse that can happen? Fly home early to avoid traffic light change or deal with the quarantine when it happens? It will either be green or amber by then, not red unless there's a global disaster.

I’d go for it but then I’ve got end of July booked. What's the worse that can happen? Fly home early to avoid traffic light change or deal with the quarantine when it happens? It will either be green or amber by then, not red unless there's a global disaster.
Seems like there’s a move to open up more coming up but then many of us were expecting it last week.

Cheers! If I'm reading that correctly, you still need to quarantine for 7 days on arrival in France.Edited by Terra1 on Saturday 19th June 00:05

Today I drove into Italy from France to buy cigarettes......no one at the small border, no one checking, no one to be seen. Either way.
I wonder if it might have been a different matter had you used either of the 2 tunnels , Mont Blanc or Frejus ?I have no idea if the open Schengen borders are indeed open to all .
Were you in a UK reg car ?
