We’re desperate to get to the USA to see our son and grandchildren. Whatever the rules here we have to wait and see when and how the US opens. I wouldn’t want to risk booking now.
If time off work isn’t an issue when I was in Barbados in December about half the people staying at our hotel were using it as a stepping stone to the US.
I wonder when USA will open up to U.K. tourists.

I can see a few areas in Europe being available from the U.K. with some corridors etc this summer also some longhaul destinations like last year but the USA looks harder to predict.

There was a heavy hint dropped a couple of weeks ago about opening up being contingent upon vaccination progress. The first lot of USA flights I have booked are for the last week in August, at this stage I’m reasonably confident about those going ahead. I don’t think Biden will rush into opening up to other lurgy ridden countries but at the same time by the start of summer both of our countries should be well into our vaccination programmes and if the data that has so far emerged continues to show such positive results I think the economic benefits of reopening that link without punitive quarantine measures might become too attractive to ignore.

None of the people I met who entered the US via Barbados faced more than a couple of questions at the border and one family said it was the fastest they’ve ever cleared customs in Florida on the way to their holiday home. That offers me some hope but as always I remain open to changing my plans, normality isn’t guaranteed just yet.

Europe is ridiculously expensive this year, a late getaway to the USA could be the bargain of the century. hehe

I think end of the summer might be possible too.

So you're saying there's still a chance I could get away to Tampa this year? hehe

Yeah I think so. I’d like to get to the states this year also but haven’t booked anything.

It’s only February.

Good point, to be fair my trip is meant to be a 1 week holiday in late September combined with an NFL game, so I can't book until the schedule is released in late April/May. Fingers crossed.

Yep my wife resorted to using avios for Crete flights in August because the prices were so high. Your mob wanted over £1k for club Europe return. Clearly all those covid savings are being blown!

Interestingly, well probably not, I always book car hire well in advance for our US trips so booked a couple of weeks of giant SUV hire for about £50/day out of SLC including one way fee in late sept/early October. The price is now over £70/day despite the fact the $ rate has risen a good few cents since I booked. I see that as a good sign.

We booked to do exactly that, then BA cancelled our flights to Barbados. I’m not sure that would work now as it’s difficult to book flights to Barbados due to lockdown.

Yeah for now it’s not possible sadly but if foreign travel is permitted before the US properly opens up to us there are worse ways to spend a couple of weeks! Fingers crossed Biden and co open the gates once they’ve got their vulnerable people vaccinated and our government ditches the various restrictions around travel so you can see your loved ones again.

We’re hoping that the US will open without the need to spend 2 weeks somewhere we don’t particularly want to be. I know Barbados is an ok island but we’re not beach people and there’s not much there for us.

I reckon the USA will open up in a few weeks but proof of vaccination will be compulsory.

There’s rum, beer and sun. Beats spring in the U.K! Joking aside I hate sand and I really don’t see the attraction of beaches, I’d rather be bored somewhere more comfortable but I managed to entertain myself for 2.5 weeks there.

You’re more optimistic than me, I reckon June ish. I’d love to be wrong though. There’s also the small problem of our government making sensible decisions regarding travel, they’ve not got the best track record there.
