I know you're not going to walk back to LE, and no one would seriously expect you to, but do you think you could have managed it?
Physically I think I’d have been OK. Had a problem with a couple of painful toes but thats cleared up since I got back into normal shoes. Actually felt pretty fit by the end and could have carried on.

But (and it’s a big but), mentally I was ready to finish - not sure I could have motivated myself to carry on.

Also logistically and financially I couldn't have done it.

Thanks for the answer and pretty much how I thought you'd reply.

Think maybe Antony might be on to something, if you were 50% of the way through and still felt fit, you could have nailed it but the "reality of life" hits home; not many people can just give up work for several months for many reasons & if the finances don't stack up, it will flounder.

Do you have any idea what sort of money it cost you?

Am I being impertinant?

About £6k all in (accommodation and all food) so averaged about £500 a week - bear in mind I was eating out a lot so I think that's not too bad.

Fair play to you for that. Let’s hope that the donations both on Just Giving and off line will more than match your fantastic achievement and financial commitment.

One final update on the fundraising front. My local pub selected me as their supported charity for 12 weeks, and I just received a donation from them for £1,020.

This takes the total raised to £6,443 for which I am pleasantly surprised and grateful.

Ah, well done!
That was one helluva journey you took on: I loved vicariously enjoying it without the pain hehe

An excellent achievement indeed and well done - have you recovered yet or decided which long walk you will do next?

Not sure what next. Think I may have mentioned that I'd love to do the Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome. It's around the same distance as LEJOG but logistically a lot trickier - especially for camping (and getting through the Great St Bernard Pass at a time of year when its open).

But hopefully it will happen.

I can’t wait for this!

Well done on the additional fundraising, that’s an impressive total.

That really is an outstanding achievement.

Question, why Lands End to J.o.G. and not the other way?

When I was 17, along with 3 mates we cycled from J.oG. to Lands End, we chose that way because, daft as it sounds, it felt physiologically downhill!

Hope to follow that one (I could cycle alongside yelling encouragement!)
I wonder whether you would find a decent pint each day....

Skeeterm5, most people go Lands End to JoG because the prevailing wind is west to East. So you’re less likely to be walking / cycling into the wind and the weather.

Aha - that make sense, we were young and foolish.

It also gets rid of the hills first! I cycled it, and it really is a baptism of fire. Scotland is dead easy, as the roads mostly have gentle drags around the mountains.
