Please can you advise what time of day this was? I am flying into T2 on a Sunday in three weeks, and have another flight a few hours later from Southampton.

ETA Also, how long was the huge delay? Thanks.
Sunday 5pm, 1 hour+ for passports. If you can use e-gates it is better.

I wouldn't take any check in luggage, they already have a mountain of it there, all minus their owners.
Bit difficult for a family of four for two weeks in US and Mexico to only have hand luggage!

Thanks. Luckily my daughter turns 12 whilst we are away so she can now use the e-gates.

I know, but why leave it in the terminal, which is where it seems a lot is ending up.

Ha! That is lucky.

My son turns 12 on Wednesday, so we were 3 days short!

Youngest daughter flew from East Midlands to Fuerteventura yesterday at 3pm with Ryanair.

She got there about 12:20 and was mooching around the Duty Free shops at 12:40 ish.

Left on time, just sent a photo from poolside with (almost) cloudless skies. Not jealous at all frown

A friend of mine had the same experience with EMA recently.

By contrast I know of someone else flying out of Birmingham who had a torrid time.

IAH - 1h30m to get through border control. Nearly full hall, 3 desks open. Complete Joke..
Houston has always been like that, if you got the arrival timing wrong!

What time did they fly from Birmingham? I’m flying out of there in a couple of weeks and have picked a mid-week mid-afternoon flight in the hope of missing most of the madness.

I'm not convinced the tech is clever enough to work out if someone is over/under 12. But I have never taken the risk before of trying it.

The tech is definitely clever enough - whether they chose to check or not is a different matter.

Given its clever enough to decide whether you match your photo, your passport is valid and you should be allowed entry to the country, checking your date of birth seems relatively trivial.....

10:30 flight out of Birmingham last Sunday was through security in 20 mins, half an hour. No different to what it was BC (before covid). Coming back at mid-day on the Tuesday no que for e-gates and in the carpark 20 mins after landing. Not sure if flying on the Sunday helped, maybe busier during the week.

Thanks. I fly the day before local schools break up for the summer. Hopefully there won’t to be too many skipping the last day of school. I expect from there onwards it will be a bit mad for the next 6 weeks. I’m returning after the Schools go back smile

Flew this morning from Birmingham to Canary Islands with TUI.
Arrived at 7.30am, no Queue to check in, literally walked up to the desk and checked in bags, no Queue for passport checks and walked straight up to security. From walking through the airport departure doors to sitting down at a table in Spoons for a cooked breakfast was 20 mins max.

Yet I am not convinced it does check to make sure the passenger is 12 or over.

5 hours late getting into Oslo tonight. Cancelled flight, rebooking delay, storm and another delay. The return on Thursday promises further fun with SAS pilots on an all out strike.

Erm.. your date of birth is on your passport.

Probably also included in the info on the biometric chip.

Figuring out your age is trivial.

Sorry, clumsy wording on my behalf. I am not sure the tech has been set up to not let under 12's use the system. But never got anyone to test it out!
