So lancaster insurance cover my car and took breakdown with them as well.
I now have a trip to Germany and wanted to make sure I was covered in Europe, I'm not.

I asked to upgrade and was told they couldn't do anything and call "silver knight " to add.
After 3/4 of a day and several calls later it would seem its "impossible" to ammend and add European coverage. Lots of sloping shoulders.

Anyone have experience of this and advice other than spending £100 on a totally new policy?

Thanks in advance.

Last time I went to the Nurburgring, which was admittedly a few years back, I took out a policy with ADAC which was very cheap. I would suggest getting a quote with them for European Breakdown Cover, they also covered you in the UK as well.

Cheer Zed, good shout I'd forgotten about them.
I should have thought about it that way round as I've ordered tyres for delivery to a garage over there to save a fortune as well. "European prices" 😜

ADAC are no longer taking on UK customers - it stopped about 3 years ago, IIRC.

I'm with rescuemycar.com - full Euro coverage for both of us in any car, £136ish

Had the same issue with a recent trip to the Nurburgring, I found my recovery policy wouldn't cover cars over 10 years old in Europe and I wanted to take my Boxster which is now 21 years old, in the end I took it anyway and all was fine but it was at my own risk.

I can recommend the Eurotunnel breakdown cover. (I don't think you have to travel with them to buy it.)

Don't ask me how I know....

Isn't this entirely normal? IIRC the AA give you two days in Europe included with your policy and any extra you need to pay for.

I always take out breakdown cover with this company BUT I have never had to use it, so can't speak from experience. £65 for European breakdown

It's a 'pay yourself, claim it back' model. Reviews online are ok.

I don't have any problem with paying for the extra cover, I do however refuse to accept that I can't amend a policy I currently pay for.

A valuable lesson has been learned though, always take full European breakdown when purchasing a policy even if you think you will never need it.

Yes as suggested, ADAC or just add to ferry or tunnel booking.

I'm with Lancaster and was advised at renewal to take out the cheapest breakdown cover and then upgrade to european if my trip went ahead. You couldn't add mid term.

Will ring and try and upgrade this week, otherwise anyone recommend a classic car european breakdown provider.

Fair enough. We've just moved to a co-op bank account that has it (and other bits) included.

One of the chaps in the barge thread recommended these people a while back

https://www.msminsurance.co.uk/personal-insurance/...

Haven't used them myself but their European cover looks quite reasonable.

Now that ADAC is no longer an option does anyone know of someone who will cover travelling to, and driving on, the ring?

All the usual suspects (AA, Greenflag etc.) all exclude it.

I struggled to get European cover for a four day trip to Spa with my 23 year old TVR Griffith last month. I hadn’t got any breakdown cover with my insurer.

Due to the car being over the magical 15 years old, few providers were interested.

I eventually got cover from the RAC for £80. My UK breakdown cover is actually with the AA but even with their existing member discount they were more expensive than the RAC.
