Does anyone know whether GHIC coverage is from point of application? I haven’t received a card or any communication and am travelling this weekend. This seems fairly common when searching online!

Thanks

I applied for a replacement card.

This is the email i received.

Your replacement card request has been received

We have received your replacement card request and it is being processed.

If you are getting treatment abroad and do not have your card

If you’re getting treatment abroad and don’t have your card with you, you can apply for a Provisional Replacement Certificate (PRC).

You should only apply for a PRC at the point you need treatment. PRCs cannot be issued in advance.

A PRC will give you the same entitlement as your card and will cover you if you need treatment while you’re abroad.

To apply for a PRC while you’re abroad contact the NHS Overseas Healthcare Services. You can do this by telephone:

Telephone: 0191 218 1999

Telephone from outside UK: +44 191 218 1999

Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

For general enquiries, you can use the Ask Us section of our website, visit our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter.

You can also find out more about your data rights and how we use your information.

Kind regards

Overseas Healthcare Services

Ok that’s interesting. Thanks.

Mine doesn’t say that. It just gives a reference number. It does say the application has been successful though. Hopefully that’s all I need.

I got a reply from them on Twitter. My application was approved immediately and card dispatched. I believe this means it was usable immediately as you can use it without the card.

I’m fully assuming it’ll be weeks before the card arrives!

Ours arrived about 3 weeks ago, but took about 4 weeks to arrive from point of order.

You shouldn't have paid anything for this - https://www.gov.uk/global-health-insurance-card

There are however 3rd parties that will take the same data you filled in and enter it on the government portal for a fee...
