Looking for some recommendations please.

Eldest daughter is on a school hockey tour to Cape Town next July/August and we've decided that my wife & I and the youngest will fly out to pick her up and then do a safari.

It'll be a one off holiday so not looking to scrimp or cut corners. Any recommendation for both where to go and tour operators to use would be gratefully received.

Ideally we want to spend about a week to ten days in SA on safari before heading back to the UK via Zambia to visit Shiwa Ngunda and possibly Kenya to stay with friends

We have booked to go to Shamwari and Gorah Elephant park in October for 5 nights at the end of a Garden Route trip.

Both look pretty good and certainly not cheap.

My cousin recommended Kariega Game Reserve although it is smaller than both of the inews we are going to.

In terms of who to use, we have booked with Travel Counsellors who have contacts with companies on South Africa.

Have you considered doing the safari in Zambia instead?

Great choice.

Sabi Sands is THE place for safari in South Africa. All the wildlife of the Kruger, with the private reserve benefit of being able to drive off-road and get really up close with the animals (in the public parks you have to stick to the roads).

Fly to Joburg or Cape Town, then scheduled internal flight to Kruger Mpumulanga (KMIA), then car or shuttle flight from there. Shuttle flights also possible from Joburg but more expensive obviously.

3 days and you will see all the big 5.

Lodges
- Londolozi, Singita, and Dulini are meant to be the dogs bks, but not cheap
- Savanna, Ulusaba, Lion Sanda are all very nice
- Elephant plains is a bit cheaper

If you’re in the region I’d also strong recommend a trip to Victoria Falls in Zambia/Zimbabwe.
Stay at The Royal Livingstone (in Zambia) or The Victoria Falls Hotel (in Zimbabwe).
