Which Canary Island is best for weather in October with Sandy beaches and potentially a secluded bay type of resort instead of a vast stretch of open beach/sea ?
Prevailing wind in the Canaries is a steady breeze from the north east so as a general rule any south or west facing resort or beach, particularly behind high cliffs has the best chance of some shelter whereas resorts on the east coasts can be very exposed. Easterly will bring a Calmina which is hot humid air from Africa and light winds and westerly will bring remnants of Atlantic storms which can be very breezy indeed.

If there's a clear night sky and a heavy dew then expect calm settled weather the next day so anywhere should be OK but if the weather is a bit lively then best strategy is have a car, check out the wind direction and drive downwind to wherever the best shelter is going to be.

The only exception to that is if the whole island is overcast with low cloud then you'll often find a thin strip of clear sky along the most windward coast so if you're after some sunshine do the opposite of that and get as far upwind as you can.

Canaries have been our go to spring and autumn destination every year since the early '90s up to when Covid kicked off.

We've been to mostly FV, rather less to LZ and occasionally GC for a change at least 50 times altogether and have probably spent more than two years in total holidaying on those three islands.

That's probably enough to learn to make the most of every day out there and find the best of what there is. smile

I concur on South West.

Los Gigantes is lovely with a cluster of hotels to suit any budget but the beach is a bit ropey.

If you have the money the Radisson Blue Resort Arginuguine just off Anfi Del Mar is the one. it's worth every penny but prepare for a nose bleed. do a Google images on the beach at Anfi del mar.

Just got back from an impromptu week in the Canaries and apart from 1 day the weather was sun lounger all the way.

Was sat in the office feeling cold and dark. Went on to Ryanair website and saw flights for £25. That''l do. 2 days later on the plane. Car hire prices are getting more sensible again all though not back to the ridiculous low stuff pre covid. Flights were cheaper than parking the car at Stansted which shows one how messed up things are.

Mind you, I blew the flight savings on a suite in a 4 star all inclusive. Wouldn't do all inclusive again as any longer would go a bit stir crazy but as it was only a week thought it worth a punt. Not a fan of pissed up Brits and Germans at 3.30 in the afternoon either.

These islands really are perfect for a sunshine fly and flop in the cooler months back here. Mid summer I'd probably look more to Europe.

The benchmark I use for a 4 star all-inclusive is the Riu Gran Canaria Maspalomas. It will shut for a full refurb this year and re-open in September.

2 weeks for 2 adults and a child under 2 its showing as 3,660 GBP.

Being able to be the only one pissed up and in peace on an inflatable in the afternoon in my own villa is why I don't do All inclusives!

Absolutely.

No point IMO in traveling to the Canaries in the summer and the moment Euroland has warmed up to T shirt and shorts temperature that's where we'll be heading too

It depends what you are after, for a family, the only way to beat it (the Canaries) on facilities and things to do during the summer is to fly to Florida. Even in July.

In other news it looks like Winter is over in most of the Canaries this week and its time to pack your suntan lotion, swim shorts lads because it is fill 'yer boots time.

Also, the ETIAS for U.K travellers has been delayed until 2024.

The weather is the only reason I go to the Canaries in winter as Tuscany is to bloody cold then.
