The one thing I found slightly disconcerting in FV was the bks. I saw far more of them than I am accustomed to. On one pretty busy beach with sunbeds etc, there was a chap jogging up the surf, with his donger bounding around. Beware where you tred in FV!
A relaxed attitude to beach attire is all part of the laid back hippy/surfer FV vibe that's quite a contrast to the more prudish feel of the other islands. Nobody seems to have any body hangups or give a fork what they look like or what anybody thinks about what they look like and just gets their kit off like it's the most natural thing in the world. If you're disconcerted by that then then as Lusifer said the town beach at Caletta and the area of dunes close to the Three Islands hotel complex are usually nudist free but I've seen all over bare flesh on the Coralejo town beaches before and on most of the beaches at El Cotillo it's quite unusual to see anybody who isn't going either topless or bare all over and it's the same on most of the vast stretch of beaches in the south towards Moro Jable .

Yes and, to be absolutely fair, I get far more uncomfortable with the volume of young girls who wander round the beaches with very small thongs on their nether regions, usually topless as well. This seems to appy to just about everywhere. If you're disconcerted by that then then as Lusifer said the town beach at Caleta and the area of dunes close to the Three Islands hotel complex are usually nudist free but I've seen all over bare flesh on the Corralejo town beaches before and on most of the beaches at El Cotillo it's quite unusual to see anybody who isn't going either topless or bare all over and it's the same on most of the vast stretch of beaches in the south towards Moro Jable .
Unlike "back in my day", zero imagination is required and try queuing for an ice-cream with one of them in front of you - you are advised to maintain a wide gap and keep your eyes looking up.

We're flying out to FV on Saturday, staying near Morro Jable. What are the evening temperatures like at the moment? Shorts and t-shirt or jacket needed? Not been on holiday for 4 years and have forgotten how to pack!
Mums there now. 40c today at noon. In March!Doesn't usually last more than a couple of days but it drives the locals nuts as everything is covered in a fine yellow dust within hours.

I know this is the Canaries thread but I've recently come back from Cap Verde which I think is a winter sun alternative. The weather is lovely and the food at our place was excellent. The downside for active travelers is that there's nothing there apart from the beach and pool so it lacks the diversity of activity options the Canaries offer. Glorious weather though! I'm not sure how costs compare from UK.
If your a active traveller then there's kite surfing , it's a really rated resort for that.We have just returned from a week in Tenerifie in Costa Adeje.
My short review. You really can't beat this place for weather. I think we were lucky as apparently there is was a wind blowing up from Africa bringing very warm air with it (it had a name which I forget). So 30 degrees in late March is fairly unusual apparently. Usually it's 23-25 ish.
However, I must say since the last time we were there 8 years ago, things have changed a little. It's sadly now more than ever the council holiday destination of choice.
So think football shirts, tattoos, massive beer guts, swearing, Northerners, and general thuggish behaviour a plenty. We did drive to the north and it seemed a little less Blackpool on sea that side.
I would say unless you're the sort who spends all day in Weatherspoons getting ever more drunk, the bigger southern areas are probably best avoided.
Luckily we had a car all week and ventured to the hidden gems these people don't go to.
We had a lovely time only using the hotel as a base (hotel Playaolid for reference).

Whilst I agree that Adeje can be a bit lairy and 'kiss-me-quick'.There are areas for all tastes, personally I wouldn't head to Las Americas side as that's not my thing but each to their own. Del Duque provides a very different option. However, as a 'nearly' northerner I take exception to your stereotyping as I don't wear football shirts (unless i'm playing football), I have no tattoos, I'm not at all overweight even though I enjoy a glass of red or a beer occasionally, and I'm definitely a 'lover-not-a-fighter'. You certainly need to adjust your 'I'm considerably better than you' attitude and sound like the type of person I would definitely try to avoid on holiday.

I have to say the majority of the loud sweary ones had strong northern accents. Maybe our hotel was the Northern council hotel of choice? Don't know. The main drag in Adeje was the same though. I can only report as I saw (and heared). I imagine the more expensive hotels are better maybe. Our hotel was the cheapest, or the cheaper end of the market being a 3 star. I was perfectly OK though. Food and accommodation was pretty good...just spoilt by the clientèle a little. No biggie as we ventured out each day.You certainly need to adjust your 'I'm considerably better than you' attitude and sound like the type of person I would definitely try to avoid on holiday.
Just to dig some more...I have to say I was quite shocked at the size of some of the Brits abroad. My god we've definitely caught up with Americans in terms of sheer gurth! I would say 50% were morbidly obese (I believe the US is 70%). We aren't far behind.

Puerto de la Cruz is hard to beat. It’s about an hours drive round the motorway or 2 hours over the mountain, beautiful town with lots of lovely coffee shops and restaurants. The pool complex at the waterfront is fantastic too.
So very impressed with PDLC, the total opposite of the south of the island. The food choice was amazing and a really pretty town in places. Highly recommened to anyone who wants a more chilled experience Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
