With regards to terrorism etc? I'd say that Turkey is very safe in the tourist areas. You'll also find that the locals are far more secular and are interested in business not politics. You are their business and therefore they will make sure that nothing gets in the way of you spending money. Erdoğan's support is made up of the less educated and poorer people in the countryside. The more sophisticated inhabitants in the cities and resorts have a far more Western outlook.

Turkey and Tunisia are two places I would never return.
Excellent. I think you're doing those of us who are a little more open minded a huge favour.

How safe are turkey and Egypt these days?

We are looking for a good all inclusive and keep dismissing these places because of our perceptions of the political climate.
In Turkey at the moment and it’s fine. Nobody discusses politics, it’s all business and the locals do their best to make you feel welcome. Security is very, very low key although if you look hard you can see it ( like Anpr on major routes, gendarme checkpoints - usually a few coppers having a fag, half asleep in a transit and cctv overseeing major conurbations. if you’re from a big city nothing will seem out of place).

The Turkish are no fools. They rely on the tourist dollar and will go way out of the way to protect it.

It’s bonkers hot at the moment, good food is cheap, beer is cheap and knock off goods are cheap (it’s so blatant that it’s comical!) and the people are amazing. We’ll worth considering.

Can’t comment on Egypt I’m afraid.

We were looking at Cyprus and were on the verge of booking yesterday, all inclusive until we looked at Turkey. Better rated hotels with more choice and inclusions is almost £1k less than Cyprus

We are booking on Tuesday and 99.9% certain we will be going to Turkey.

Who are people looking at AI with? Is it the usual First Choice / TUI options or is there elsewhere worth looking?

I tend to use teletext holidays for booking our AI week that we go in September each year. Usually end up in the Canaries.
