Browsing through classifieds you see and ad for a "retro" bike, and wonder just how young you need to be to refer to something so new fangled as retro.

Good grief! Retro, my butt.

I do get some funny looks when I take my '94 GT Pantera out to the local MTB trails. "How can you ride offroad without suspension" etc etc.

you realise you get to the age where your music, hairstyle, taste in everything just sticks.

Instead of downloading all the latest new music you start searching for ocean colour scene etc!

Tv adverts use 'Retro' clips from 20 years ago, you recognise them but to some they are new.

In Mountain Bike terms retro is anything over 5 years old really, the technology is still moving at a super fast pace.

I felt really old we recently when few mates and I was reminiscing about a old Night Club we used to go to a lot, one of my friends partner had never been and asked my GF if she had "No, sounds fun, but it was knocked down in 1999, I was only 15"

Similar to the post above, when you know deep down that on the balance of probability you have less years ahead of you than behind you. We seem to come from oblivion and return to oblivion with such a short blip of time in between.

Nivana CONFIRM I'm old, my Sister is a lot younger than me, 18 years or so. A few years ago I spotted her wearing a Nivana t-shirt, although she admitted it was a fashion thing and hadn't actually heard much of their music.

I started gobbing off about how Nirvana wern't the best "grunge metal act of the 90's, their first and last albums were pretty rubbish and until he blew his brains out, the music scene had pretty much moved on and they were already well on their may to becoming yesterdays news" Or the 'Lenon Effect' as I like to call it.

She said something along the lines of "I don't know what makes you sound older, the fact that you knew them years ago when they were still going, or that boring statement".

I considered myself well told.

Hehe. It always irritates me when someone refers to a watch from the 1980s as a "vintage" watch. But it probably comes from a lack of understanding of what "vintage" or "retro" implies.

When you can remember them filming the last series of Monty Python just down the road from where you lived and that was 36 years ago.

When you can remember when the first episode of The Young Ones went out and that was 29 years ago.
