It annoys me, mildly, when I see that someone has posted on a serious thread merely to crack a joke of some kind, especially if my 'net is running slow or the PH site is playing up and it's taken me a while to view the updated thread. Because of that annoyance, I don't think it would be right to draw attention, on such a thread to a really funny mixed metaphor that someone has posted quite unwittingly. The fact that, by my own rules of annoyance, I can't do that annoys me.

It's a shame, as this one was a beauty.
Seeing as this isn't a serious thread;

That should keep you occupied until your broadband is running faster. You're welcome biggrin

Not burke but berk.

Rhyming slang.

Abbreviation of Berkeley Hunt.

As you were.
I can see that, and will only add that it doesn't, of course, actually rhyme with the normal pronunciation of Berkeley smile.
Up until I chcked before posting, I had always believed it to be a contraction of Berkhampstead Hunt, where the berk is as one would anticipate. Perhaps I was right and the Urban Dictionary is wrong.

People who use the term 'Seeing as...'

Why not just 'As......'

Equally, people who start posts with 'So,....'

The fact that people bastardise the English language in written form to reduce the effort required to get their point across (e.g. text language) but will use innappropriate and longer words and phrases in order to make them appear more intelligent than they are when they are speaking e.g. using 'Absolutely' instead of 'Yes'.

You're not the first to complain about this usage and I'll confess to be someone who offends you in this way, either at the start of a post, or a new paragraph within it.

I guess the reason for using it is because I see forums as places for 'chatting with people you know' and, much as if you were in a pub and wanted to attract the attention of a group (So, who wants another beer?') or place a marker down/focus people in to a decision/conclusion ('So, enough chat, have we decided where to go for some munchies?') I would deploy it to similar effect.

Writing for the web, in any form, is very different to writing a book or a magazine article, for instance. Good bloggers have to keep their messages short and punchy as their readership want to draw value from every single line.

So, regrettably, I will on occasion annoy you; maybe take some comfort that I'm doing it to actively enhance the message I'm trying to convey.

Also, even worse; "Being as"

Please, don't do it; you obviously don't know when the accusative form should be used and it grates less to see an out of place "who" than this abortion.

Marvellous. I could eat this sort of thing with a spoon.*

*This is an analogous statement. It is intended to be humorous and is not intended to be taken literally.

SC, How do you feel about the fact that it is always you that is in the centre of these things?
What conclusions do you draw from that?
Any thread that you are on for any length of time involves you having these kind of interchanges with other people. The other people don't do it with each other, or with anyone else, it is always you.
DO you conclude from this that you are a universal victim? Like some kind of bully victim?
You seem to, it's just that noone can even see you, so there is nothing specific to pick on you for. PLus your 'tormentors' are all often middle aged. Bit old for bullying. WHat else might an intelligent person conclude armed with these facts?
Your post fails on the very first sentence. Which is hardly surprising considering the bullst I've seen you write on other threads, and the fact that you are banned from at least one.

How long do you think it would take me to find umpteen other examples of this kind of aggravation that I haven't been anywhere near?

As for the other stuff, no, I don't see myself as any kind of victim. To do that, I would have to be losing and I'm not. I'll continue to respond robustly whenever I see fit. Notice I say respond. If you see me start something then feel free to respond youself.

You really are an appalling burke, you must have creamed your pants when you saw what you perceived to be yet another chance to have a go at me (I notice you like to be one of the pack, not to lead it, BTW). I've seen you enter threads for the sole reason of attacking me, but only when someone else has already had a go at me. Strange that you would exhibit such cowardly behaviour considering that you're not at any kind of risk, just some anonymous Sid Some poster spreading annoyance wherever he goes.
Fot the avoidance of doubt, 99% of PH thinks you're a grade knobber.

what grade nobber do we think he is? (cue similar accusations of following him around to jump in and victimise, no doubt)
