My other half works for Tescos. Their self scans are unmanned but they are equpped with cameras and staff periodically look at the tapes to see if everythings above board. The cameras register faces and till receipts

Days later it's Gotcha time!
How can they be unmanned when it comes to age verification for alcohol, knives etc?

There's usually a member of staff close by at all times. The tills beep/half a flashing light on top that gets their attention. Usually not very quickly and you're left standing there like a spare one at a wedding while other go by mocking your inability to work basic electronic equipment.

Yeah in every supermarket I've ever been in there's been someone manning the admin console which shows the current baskets of each checkout on one screen and any problems - so they're not "unmanned"....

In a certain orange supermarket, if you have scan two items that are linked by an offer..for instance

2 bottles of coke for £2

Normal prices being, for instance, £3.

If you use the self service, scan the two items, the total will come to £3, even after you have press the "Pay for Items" button.

You have to press back and go back to the scan screen for it to register and change the price to £2.
Wonder how many people walk away not realising.

Try it out next time your there.

Another example is the meal deal for £3.

Sandwich
Drink
Crisps for £3.

Scan the three items on the self service checkouts, and the total will simply be the original price of the individual items added together.

To trigger the meal deal offer of £3, you have to press the pay for items, and then press back to where you scan the items. Wonder how many people dont notice...

Hope that makes sense.

But you still pay the offer price though.

Have never stolen, but this behaviour doesn't surprise me, hopefully it'll encourage stores to get rid of the hateful things and employ more checkout staff.
No thanks.
I like to be in and out as quick as possible.
My lunch break is my time and I do not want to lose it either by queueing or being asked whether it's still raining outside.

I was running short of Whey Protein a few weeks back to maintain my Hercules style body.

After casually asking a girl working at Asda if they stocked any, to my amazement she said yes we have a range in Isle X, when I went to Isle X there was a massive selection, however, to order the stuff you had to take a card and take it to the customer service desk down the front of the store.

I did this and got chatting with the girl on the counter, she then revealed that this stuff was like Gold dust and they couldnt stock the shelves fast enough. Unfortunatley for Asda, they couldnt stock the shelves fast enough because people were nicking it. The Asda girl told me one bloke filled his trolley with 20 tubs (at £40/tub) and simply walked out (saw on CCTTV afterwards).

Others were putting them through by hiding something between the scanner & the protein, say the bar code off a dog toy or something therefore £40 protein was being tilled as a £1.99 dog chew. This went on for months and cost ASDA Thousands the girl said!! eek
