Another vote for sport here. All sport - even motorsport. No interest whatsoever.

Ditto "Celebrity Culture" and "Reality TV".

I don't think "proud to be ignorant about..." applies, but I'm certainly not ashamed to not have much of a clue or any interest about anything to do with any sports, despite being of the male sex.

I don't mind that other people like it and some take that to an obsessional level of knowledge and interest, but it's just not really for me. I'm not at all knowledgeable about oceanography either, but never has an occasion arisen as to where I might need to mention or list all the myriad things I know very little about or have no interest in, but sport it seems I do need to, on a tediously regular basis.

It's always slightly amusing when you simply admit to not being into football when somebody tries to make smalltalk about it and assume because I'm male, that we'll have some form of instant rapport - the response is then to switch to them talking about rugby, then cricket, then F1 and so on at each declaration of "No, I don't really follow sport". "Ah, not into rubgy or football, well you MUST like F1 then..." etc. Err no, I mustn't anything. hehe
Exactly this.

Having said that, football was always the main one for me, but being in a bar in Rome last night and seeing Italy win was great fun. The atmosphere was incredible! I wouldn't have watched it on my own, but being amongst the enthusiasm of others really made it a lot more enjoyable smile

Swimming. Last time I tried it I could run 20 miles without any problem yet a few hundred metres in the water and I gave up.

I came to the conclusion that I should stay out of the water. How to covert energy into forward movement in the stuff is a mystery to me.

Most of the celebrity stuff is a mystery to me along with soap operas. I lost touch with current pop music a good few years ago now when I stopped listening to Radio 1. I haven't heard the song that people keep making memes about which starts "I know this is crazy and we just met" or similar so they pass me by. I'm not necessarily proud of all this, it's just normal for a 35 year old isn't it?

It's a mindset thing, same as running.
A lot of people would say, "I can't run for more than 15 minutes". I suspect you could tell them that after 15 minutes your body starts getting used to the idea that you are doing some exercise and you can plod on for much longer than you expect. You stop thinking about how much it hurts and start looking around and enjoying yourself.

When swimming, you mostly float and you need much less clearance above the water to breath than you think.
So if you think of not trying to swim to keep yourself up to the surface, but think of pushing the water down past your feet, you create a bit of a hole in the water around where you breath and it all gets rather easier. Relax and glide....

like many others on here, twitter and general celeb culture.

One I'm happy about, rather than proud of... I have no idea what being raped or abused as a child is like. No idea at all. I happy about this since the alternatives are either:

a)thinking 'oh, it's not that bad', and being ostracized by society for failing to see what the fuss is about;
b)understanding why it sucks so much, and being sadder for knowing people have to go through that.

So I'm happy taking someone's word for it that it's awful.

...and so, the eternal cycle flows on... Why do we never learn?

Ignorance for me? Fruitmachines - I have had their infernal workings explained to me a number of times, without sucess. I'm happy in the belief that I will never understand what all of the lights and noise and pictures signify - to any extent.

Count me in as ignorant of fruit machines, betting shops, casinos, the football pools and pretty much any other kind of gambling. I don't know why but it's never held any appeal to me, and I've worked alongside a bunch of Chinese guys when I was younger who would gamble over anything and everything. Maybe it's just because I'm the least competitive person I know.

I gave up on fruit machines when they took the handle off the side. I could cope with pulling an handle, and getting an instant result, but when they introduced hold and nudge, it all got too much for my brain to process.

How is it that some people, actually make that some men as I've never seen a woman use one, know how they work? Do the instructions come free with a pack of Mayfair fags and Gola trainers or do they teach Fruit Machine Studies in borstals?

I find it's always best to look on Wikipedia for new things... For instance instead of googling 'Lemon Party' I Wiki'd it and found out that I REALLY didn't want to google it.
