These are what I'm considering

I have some Cheaney Tweed C boots (Tan grain on commando)

Pretty well made and nice soft flexible leather - much softer out of the box than Tricker's calf. The fit is good but there is a little too much volume around the inner arch for my foot. Doesn't ruin the comfort.

As with most country shoes/boots, the advice is to go down half a size from your normal oxfords.They are designed to be worn with thick socks,

I have a few Cheaney boots and have those tweed jobbies are also on my list.

Their standard width fitting is F, so the up/down a size depends a bit on how wide your feet are too.

They're a bit clompy when new, but soon settle into being spectacularly comfortable. I've had mine for years and walked right through them and factory re-furbed. Probably my favourite boot.

ive hardly worn mine as its not exactly boot wearing weather out here. i do find the upper/collar a little too soft and loose fitting. i also don't think my feet are a cheaney 'fit'. comfortable yes but not overly so.

thinking of some oliver Sweeney tan brogue boots next as, despite them being a tad overpriced for the quality, their shoes fit my feet perfectly. my Aldeburghs are easily the most comfortable shoe i own.

Here are some photos taken last Saturday at the London SuperTrunk show held in Mayfair. There are some great selections to try on which are rarely available in the UK. Plenty of shoe aficionados around, shoe polishing competition and talks after. I didn't attend some of it as I headed down to Jermyn Street after that.

Thanks I think it's a copy, he told me it was aged artificially. Most of their shoes ain't cheap. I'll be posting the Japanese ones next Impeccable attention to detail.

The one that surprises me most was Carlos Santos. I've always wanted to try one and I have to say it fits well (I have to size down by 1), The arch support reminds me of EG but very reasonable price. I would be getting a pair in future.

I note a lot of square / chisel toed designs in those photos. I have a pair of black Oxfords with a slightly square toe and I was wondering about changing them for a more rounded toe.

Is a squared off toe still "in" or are they passé now?

Go on then, what's the 1786 Russian reindeer? Some centuries old reindeer dug out of the permafrost perfectly intact, then its hide used for high end shoe making, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
