Nice or annoying?

Wear a badge with Bert written on it, that should work.
That would end up in the Spanish Inquisition. The whole 'Bert' thing is a running joke. My surname is Bassett, so everyone calls me Bert, or Berty. It's all good, it gives me some ammunition if I'm out in a group, and anyone wants to know if my name is actually Bert. Gwagon111 said:

Oh so you are 'that guy'... the one who sits in the corner on their own and oggles the 18 year old girls jiggling around?
Not really. The only 18 yr olds I'm interested in tend to be single malts. Sitting at home would bore the crap out of me, I don't mind being in a group once in a while, it's just when I'm trying to be alone, to de-stress, and regroup my thoughts, it's kind if odd (but strangely flattering) that complete strangers seem to want to 'help' me out. I guess it's not a bad thing, I just need a plan of action that doesn't involve offending them.Away from home, drink on tap and your own company for err, company. In company with a bunch of similarly inclined folk who appreciate the curious paradoxical value of all being alone together, being much better than being alone - alone.
It is often joked about that although i dislike most people i am very socially adept. I cannot stay alone in a pub, it is very difficult.
In answer to your question i take it as nice, the kind of person who will involve a stranger on their own is the kind of person who will check you are ok after you fall over. They are to be applauded, if you need your own space i have discovered the line "I' very sorry but i need a little time to myself" is both polite and effective.
Enjoy that people try to involve you, when you are ignored completely then it will be the day you need someone to talk to you.

I go out to my local by myself sometimes, people always try and chat in there. The best way to ward people off, I find, is to sit at the bar, frowning at a newspaper article. People tend to leave me alone if I'm reading. However, there is always someone to talk to, if I want to. Most of the time I'm quite happy to have a chat.

I find only misfits and sad singletons go out on their own and stay like that.
I can't think of a time when I've gone out on my own and stayed out like that.
Unless I'm meeting someone of course.
Very odd.
This. I like to be alone a lot myself. But I do this in my own house. Or sometimes on a nice sunny day go to a park and read a book. Whilst checking out the hotties, obviously. I can't think of a time when I've gone out on my own and stayed out like that.

Can't understand how a club can be fun on your own??

Just wondering if I am missing out on something. How is being alone in a bar/club not boring but being alone at home boring?
Because there are no people to watch when I'm at home. There's nothing as entertaining as watching a disagreement develop into a fight, in a bar or club Gwagon111 said:

Aren't you breaking the law?I did this yesterday, went to the local for the first time and watched the football. I got chatting to some lads and then after the football they went on and I sat at the bar for a while just having a couple of pints. A few people started conversations and had I wanted to then I could've joined them but I quite enjoyed just doing a bit of people watching and unwinding before work today.
