I have to agree with the OP, this thread says everything about the "new money" postings on here. I wouldnt normally point this out but I have never bought a spoon in my life. In the town house we have a set of C19 Frou frous, these come from my wifes family and were looted from Field Marshall Neys baggage train by her Great Grwat Great great Grandfather during the Peninsular wars. In the country house we use the Sidebotham and Webbs which are servicable but perhaps not as comfortable as modern spoons. We would like to get them modified but they appear in several books on the subject and are grade 1 listed by the British Spoon Council and so even sending them away for a professional polish is something we can only dream of. None of our guests would dream of mentioning their provenance or auction value.
Nothing amusing has ever happened to me in connection with spoons.

The problem with teaspoons is it's a trade off. You either choose the sturdy, all stainless steel variety which doesn't bend or snap when you apply the slightest bit of pressure but risk burning your fingers as the metal heats to eleventy billion degrees, or you choose one with a plastic handle the snaps when you try to squeeze your teabag against the mug.

For the metropolitan man - a man of action, one who has little time in his life because he's too busy earning cash and satiating the desires of beautiful women - the common spoon is often not enough. If you're a metropolitan man, I'd recommend a Spork.

Can one purchase a C/F spoon for those times when stiring tea needs to be a light weight affair? I do like the idea of the finesse of a McLaren branded teaspoon for the Earl Grey and a Ferrari one for a cup of agricultural PG tips and Williams for an Asda special in a cracked mug.

You people are so limited in your spoon usage.

Spoons are capable of far more than just stirring things, I myself have made a wonderful necklace:

Stainless steel or plastic? No my dear fellow, you don't choose either of those. Titanium, silver or platinum work just fine. Carbon fiber for the sportsman.

They don't. They just want us to know how rich they are. tts, with their fancy metal spoons.

I am shocked by the number of PH'ers who stir their beverages, I was under the impression that most of the gentry on here hire some sort of spoon lackey to do it for them.
Indeed - what exactly is a teaspoon?

Hi,

I'm looking for a quality tea spoon, looking to spend 10-15k on one I can stir with everyday but also retains its value. I've been looking at Krupp, Gianelli and Sidebotham but particularly with the last two, I'm looking at their entry level spoons. Are there other brands I should be considering?

I'm a spoon novice and my current (outgoing) piece is a relatively cheap Percy de Montfort that I bought myself in 1999.

Appreciate any advice you might have (and I've already tried the search function )

Just used one of those to stir my cuppa soup at work and it just wilted like a weed when I stirred it.

Really not fit for purpose. frown

For the PHer of a Skoda persuasion I suggest you test drive the Alessi range currently on special offer a Tesco's (scrabble around the floor by the front entrance to pick up the necessary vouchers discarded by David Mellor owners).

The Tesco 'Alessis' have nice balance, handle well, and perform as well as teaspoons available on offer from much posher supermarkets.
