That's impressive. How did you regulate return flange resonance in such a lightweight spoon without compromising on stiffness?

confused
Compromised stiffness.

Story of my life.

I need a new teaspoon for the office. I see that Spooner, Spooner and Spooner and Sons are releasing a Brexit Special edition with Rhodium plating, but will it last? Or suffer tip cavitation?

I recently saw a picture (or publicity shots) of this in ‘Spoon’ magazine while I was in Tescos.

I was impressed as I’m not usually one for a commemorative edition since having a bad experience with a resin coated ‘Prince Edward 40th birthday tribute sugar spoon’ in the past.

This one looks the real deal and I would say tough enough for the office environment.

A decent choice but do take along an expert when buying. The few hundred guineas they'll charge will seem like a pittance if you buy a fake one of these.

As an example, can you tell which of the two spoons shown is the genuine article? One is worth a five figure sum, the other I wouldn't let my chief decorator stir paint with.

Exactly.

Are you sure one Teaspoon will be sufficient?

If you recall the sage advice concerning the buying of five pairs of good quality, leather office shoes and alternating the wear, thus allowing the shoe to dry out between wearings and maximise longevity and comfort - using the same spoon every day will ultimately reduce its useful life.

A bulk buy may be more cost-effective too.

An ultra-rare Le Duessier Ceramic 1928.

These were never very popular as they were designed to be undetectable to airport security scanners, well before such scanners were invented.

Advice needed
I spotted this just yesterday and wanted to ask the experts if it would be a worthwhile investment

Any advice greatly appreciated

Pre-war custard measuring spoons are going through a renaissance - so it might be worth a punt. It looks like the bowl has been recalibrated at some point and I'd want to check that out before dropping too much cash on it.

I was just going to go in and hand over a fiver. I hadn't thought about haggling too much

Buy it, and buy it quick.

Note the word "WEIN" written on the handle. This is a wine stirrer from the mid-1830's when it was common practice to use such an implement. At the end of a meal, those who didn't want to take a cup of tea would finish with a dessert wine, but of course in doing so would miss out on the very act of stirring their beverage. Thus wine stirring became a thing and if YouSpoon had been invented there would have been countless videos dedicated to the practice.

The spoon is not Austrian, an easy mistake to make for obvious reasons (Bowl taper and the fact there's a sign saying it's Austrian). It is one of only three of the "Agi-Merlot" model ever known to come out of Gorden and Theales (Yorkshire West Riding, 1778 - 1962) with the word "wine" mis-spelt.

It should also be noted that most wine stirrers did not have the word "wine" written on them as their purpose was obvious to most. This particular model was however designed for the most upper of upper classes who couldn't normally be trusted to know the difference between a wine spoon and garden trowel.

Thank you I feel humbled by your responses and realise it is a bargain and one to be bought for prosperity.
as I feel I am not perhaps the best person to look after this long term I feel I should donate it to a museum or more avid collector

My dear fellow,
Speaking as someone who has collected more more avids that any other more avid collectors in the northern hemisphere, I would have been only too pleased to offer myself to let you have the benefit of my custodial services; however, that looks to me to be a terrible attempt to graft a worthless stainless steel bowl onto a poorly executed copy of a valuable original.
Therefore I'm afraid I must decline.
I have no desire to clutter up my clutter with such a shoddy aberration of a stirrer.

Anyone been here at all?

I'm in Kyrenia at the moment following up a hot lead on Ali Pasha's famed stirring tool "Hammer of the infidel"

My contact suggested we rendezvous here.

Fingers crossed.

I've been invited by my fiancee for a night spooning with her female friend.

Should I do this? There was a thread on here not long ago about Teasomes being a bad idea.

Do I take my own spoon or should I stir with someone else's spoon? Fiancee said I need to build up up "a loving spoonful" for the occasion, anyone any idea what this is, I'm currently at church coffee club (sinful to us Teaoists in its very nature itself) and Urban Dictionary is banned on the churches webserver.

44:23 for comedy gold. I don't think the "expert" got a single fact right and as for the valuation, well he's about £995.00 out. I've seen more genuine articles at Bridgwater Fair.
