All this rain and sun really is making my garden grass grow like crazy and the gardener has gone on holiday.

Christ, this must be what its like to live through a natural disaster.

Sorry, can't help but laugh at that.

Friend has the same sort of problem - if he leaves the door open, then the robot makes a break for freedom and starts running down the drive....

(I really want one, but the Dyson one is £1600. That is a lot for a potential chew toy - we have three Dobermans).
I've had a Roomba for about 6 years now. I also have a Siamese cat. The Roomba is amazing at picking up pet hair. No other vacuum has ever come close. On the downside, things can get a bit awkward when Roomba encounters a pile of cat sick and attempts to clear it up frown

I was looking at the Dyson one in Currys just the other day and was quite impressed - not sure our dog would appreciate it.

One thing I did wonder which wasn't explained in the demo of it trundling around is the how/when they work - is it at set times or does it just roam constantly cleaning??

If they are suede brogues, I fear you may have to bin them.
Don't worry, leather.

If suede, I would have started a new thread: "Pistonheaders and their First World Disasters".
Simply goes to show that no good can EVER come from eating hummus.

Ours is set to vacuum every weekday at 8.30 while the missus is on the school run. Weekends we just press the button when we go out so it's done by the time we get back.

We've had a Roomba for years too. Replaced brushes and batteries, it's also yellowed a bit over time - but it keeps doing a great job.

Mine is programmed to go off once a day and vacuum everything. When it's finished, it returns to its charging dock. I have to empty the dustbox (m'lady) about once every 4-5 days.

the terrible "woolworths quality for harrods prices" product that is BEATZZZ by Dre are definitely NOT first world, and i am surprised you are surprised that they snapped in two!! Don't be offended, just buy decent headphones that aren't 'fashion' ones.

Fair point, but as they were a gift, I thought better of returning them! They don't sound too bad, at least it drowns out the office noise. I think my FWP was more that I was without music for an afternoon as my sennheisers were at home.

this article is a bit harsh... as it's kind of an intervention by 'hi-fi' nerds

fair point on them being a present but this might put you off replacing like for like smile

Not wanting to derail the thread, but what about the quality of the music you're playing. The article talks about recording studios, but what about apple music et al? Or streaming from YT, like I do with the beats, or at least did!

well TBH it isn't a derail as this type of nerdery is entirely FWP of the highest order.

Yes totally agree. The whole 'electronic music' debate out the back of the decline of vinyl/advent of the MP3 culture of the 2000s is a massive one.

I'd really like to have one of those audiophile's lossless players with vast storage, but they just never quite seem to take hold in the market. If there was some kind of industry standards for how interoperability works between devices and things like cars then it wouldn't matter when individual devices came and went. In reality the interop issue has just been a massive thorn since mobiles started integrating with cars, and they are only just solving it... but for the vastly mainstream smartphones only. Apple CarPlay is good providing everyone has an iPhone, but ultimately they are still operating in that crappy MP3 player space.

In reality however the idea of getting one of these things and then effectively going through my entire music collection (not ridiculously vast but still 7000 songs or so) and re-obtaining the available ones as full lossless format... the hassle and cost associated with that.... i think it's a post-retirement activity. Would make a humorous sabbatical application at work.

Spent 20 odd minutes swearing at the TV last night because the 3d wouldn't work properly.
Found the problem eventually, have a guess...
