English is likely one of the most hybridised, mongrel languages on the planet. It has countless loan words from dozens of other languages. It is a very young language, compared to Welsh, which is the oldest living language in Europe.

Popty ping is an urban myth.

He did say "oldest in Europe" as a qualifier... Sanskrit is Asian in origin

Exactly. Think Basque is also the only Euro lang totally unrelated to any other.

I think you'll find:

Lithuanian has kept more of the sounds and grammar rules from PIE than any of its linguistic cousins, and can therefore be called one of the oldest languages in the world.

Yes, sorry, my mistake. Welsh is the oldest living Indo-European language, Basque is the oldest living language in Europe. Basque is not Indo-European and as correctly pointed out by others it is a language isolate, it has no known relatives and nobody knows where or how it originated. Rushing to post things to appear to be a smart arse occasionally makes one fall upon said gluteus maximus.

Basques don't say popty ping either, though.

Sanskrit is an Indo-European language, but it is dead. Welsh is younger, but alive. The oldest Indo-European language is only known as Proto-Indo-European, and only a little is known of it, but it is the root of all Indo-European languages, living and dead.

beer Nay worries. I speak neither of the discussed languages ( or popty ping). Wonder how gluteus maximus is said in Basque? smile Anyone know?
