I have a neighbour who recently moved to a much better house, with a good job within walking distance. A far better situation than the previous one. So why is my neighbour still driving 100 miles a day, and hating every moment of it? Because her child doesn't want to move to the (much better) nearby school because all her friends are at the old one.
So their new job is in walking distance of their new house (next door to you), but they do a 50mile each way trip back to their old town for the sons school?

Hmm.

Its odd but its very decent of them to do that. When you say 100 miles a day do you mean the school is 50 miles away, or is the school 25 miles away and they have to do the trip twice?

A better school on paper won't be the same for the child if all their friends are at the old school - and it depends what age they are. Being the new kid at school would be hard mid-year like this for a lot of secondary school aged children. Even for younger children too

Sounds like a 25 mile one way trip, if it was just a transitional arrangement then seems fair. Permantly it'd be a right faff. Depends a little on age and when exams are to be taken.

If tiddlers I wouldn't be doing it.

You have correctly understood my post.

When my parents wanted me to change schools they informed me of their decision. They did ask me how I felt about it, but I knew they weren't offering me a choice.

I can't see what difference the child's age makes, they aren't going to like it if they are five of fifteen (in my case I was fifteen).

IMO Age has a lot to do with it

15 year old well settled into a school with 6 years worth of friends and only 6 months to go till they leave for collage, I would do the commute

10 year old who only joined that school 6 months ago, and faced with 5 1/2 years of the commute, no chance

The second version is nearer the truth of my neighbour's situation.

It makes all the difference. If you're in year 11 and four months away from doing GCSEs, you'd be barking to move schools. If you're six and still learning to colour in between the lines....less so.

Oh well, at least they're not fetching them home for lunch too.

Not sure this is odd as opposed to just fking stupid.

Guy opposite side of the street has a nesbitt son who doesn't live there but has 3 vehicle parked all over the place and is often making a racket working on his sheds.
Today he thinks is a good idea to pull his car into the street parallel with the kerb and wash his piece of st car. So now what we have is a stream of water that has washed down the street for about 20 metre's......Just waiting now for it to freeze over, well done you big turd .

I can see that's irritating, what's a nesbitt?

I wondered about that too, is the son the love child of James Nesbitt, the N. Irish actor?
Wonder if we’ll ever get an answer?

It is in it indeed in reference to rab himself.

Definitely not a PH friend, just someone that should be in the council thread that has a bit of money from gambling.

It's like an ice rink out there this morning.

Late January, 3c, 50mph gusts, pissing down with rain....

The ‘tard next door is taking a chainsaw to his decking. I believe he is repairing as opposed to demolishing. Guy is semi-retired. Why the fk?

Appears he also has an incredibly steep garden rolleyes
