Odd things your neighbours do?

Our neighbour hates our trees. He has pretty much chopped everything down in his garden and now he is moaning about our stuff. He approached me a few weeks ago and said do I know that one of our conifers is pushing his fence up. I went down the garden and had a look. The trunk of the tree is slightly pushing the bottom slat up a little.
Thing is, his garden and house frontage has been an absolute tip ever since we moved in. We have also had numerous instances where his dogs have got out onto our lawn and st everywhere.
The bottom of his garden is full of crap, bits of old metal fencing, junk, rusty old bikes etc. And he comes up to me and moans about a tree that has been there for years and years.
Don't even get me started on the front of his house that has had bits of car engines, car parts, oil patches and all manner of st (even a toilet) piled up for ages. Until very recently, he also had multiple cars and vans which meant he had too many for the driveway. He has changed jobs now, so the van has gone, but he used to park it over the road in-front of someone else's house. That drew some choice comments. We have never once complained to him.
He told me he is going to cut the tree down. I said carry on then and just ignored him. He has hated the trees and been vocal about them ever since we moved in. Thing is, the trees were there long before we moved in.
I'm not biting or getting angry with him because I can't be bothered with it. Apart from the tree issue, him and his wife are ok neighbours.

Many years ago, we had a garden that backed onto a small plot that belonged to a distant neighbour (accessed by a little footpath between other gardedns).
It started off as a nice garden.
A new owner bought the property that owned it. She set about removing every single green thing in the garden, right down to every blade of grass. It became a patch of bare earth. Then she started hacking off every branch that overhung her garden, including some on a tree belonging to us - wrecking the shape of the tree.
We thought about having an argument with her about it but thought better of it. She had a huge dog that used the land as a loo. She'd shovel the cr@p into the corner furthest from us (making the garden that bordered that area unusable in summer). We decided it wasn't worth the risk that our border became her poo pile of choice.
I don't think she was quite right in the head.

Strange one (IMO) a few streets away from me, there are three houses all quite close to each other in a very nice residential road where two have had skips in their front gardens/drives for at least the last year (one longer) and one house with a nasty old white van in the drive and rubbish everywhere.
I just can't understand why a rational normal person wouldn't get such eyesores sorted out (I guess maybe the owners aren't rational/normal LOL)
See pics of the offending properties....

I did say 'ok' neighbours.
He will fall out with himself. I have no interest in arguing with him.
But you need to stand your ground to some extent. If he chooses to come onto your land to cut a tree down on your land he is well out of order. He will fall out with himself. I have no interest in arguing with him.
You could simply try and cut the branch that is causing the issue.
Boundary disputes no matter how petty are often the ones that define neighbour relations. I have never had one. Its very simple for us.
On every house we have bought owned flipped whatever. we put a fence or build a wall up that is exactly to the border line.
That fence is our property and our responsibility and I have always made a polite point of informing the neighbours accordingly.
One to add, live action as my neighbours ignoring a good 13 hours of bright sunshine have just mowed their lawn and are now gardening in the pitch black with head torches. If you set aside their random trumpet playing (the brass type, mind out of gutters please!) they are pretty normal. Now I am deeply suspicious.

Panic lawnmowing having just arranged a BBQ for tomorrow perhaps ?A couple of houses away is a single lady ( no idea of her marital history / situation ) probably early –mid 60s .
She has 2 or 3 odd behaviours .
We have an urban fox problem , not helped by her leaving raw eggs with homeopathic treatment out for foxes to control mange , as a result we get empty shells and fox crap on our drive and in back garden , fox crap is a carrier of giardia , and this causes severe gut problems with young dogs , including ours ,she knows but still carries on .
Every evening she is in her back garden calling in her 2 or 3 cats in for the night , calls them by name .Do cats answer their names in the same way as dogs do ?
Finally , she has a drive with sufficient room for her 2 cars , Golf and flip top Merc ,if we start car cleaning she will move the Golf out into the road and park in the middle of a section that has room for 2 cars thereby preventing us parking whilst we swap cars around , and since our neighbour on the other side has had a side extension started and in consequence has builders vans , delivery’s etc requiring somewhere to pull up she now leaves the Golf blocking the whole kerb all the time .
Apart from the above is she is a pleasant and sociable person

Young bloke next door hasn't introduced himself to any of his neighbors. In fact on the few occasions I have seen him and said hello, he pretends he can't see or hear me, and turns his back to me.
A couple of weeks back I was expecting a parcel. The doorbell went and the courier handed me the machine to sign on, gave me the parcel and hurried off for his next delivery. I then noticed the parcel was for our odd neighbor, not me, but the courier had gone. No problem I thought, he'll come and get it. Nope, he later phoned the courier and told them they had delivered his package to the wrong address. They explained a kindly neighbor had taken it in, but he insisted that they come back to me the next day, collect the parcel, and then deliver to him!

I’ve a neighbour who is a strange old sod. My amazon specifies do not deliver to XX. On the one time that they have they offered to come and collect and redeliver the parcel.A couple of weeks back I was expecting a parcel. Where I live is a strange little community of people and I don’t want to be involved in the invites to their houses etc so I just ignore my neighbors.
The good guys have to reciprocate invitations and on more than one occasion have said it’s like having another set of parents.
Some just like the quiet life.
We've got one oddball locally called Roger who takes utter ste, or in depth details about his bladder cancer and the various invasive procedures. I don't mind him but you do need to have some spare time to hand if you're going to let yourself get "Rogered". My favourite was being told his highflying granddaughter (something in the home office wink wink...) got a new Range Rover that goes from LHD to RHD at the flick of a switch.
I don't particularly know the neighbours the other way as they're 1/2 a mile away, but one lot have just built an extension with lantern roof and large windows all round. So far so normal... The extension is on the lane side of the house, across 10 yards of lawn. The lane sees a car an hour, maybe, sometimes more in the summer. There's also occasional walkers, horses and bikes, but it's very quiet. But they've put a 6 foot fence up all round the extension less than a yard away from the windows.

I have a neighbour 2 doors down who is similar. She’s often out the back smoking and when she moved in I would shout hello to her to be ignored. Maybe she is just deaf???A couple of weeks back I was expecting a parcel. The doorbell went and the courier handed me the machine to sign on, gave me the parcel and hurried off for his next delivery. Could you not have taken it round to him? It would an ideal opportunity for you to introduce yourself to him.A couple of weeks back I was expecting a parcel. Taking the parcel round? Too neighbourly by far.
i live in a house, but there's a block of flats on my road with the same address, the post code is slightly different and it mentions the name of the block of flats on the address. despite this maybe 1-2 times a year we get mail for an address belonging to the flats. sometimes ive popped it back in the post box up the road, someetimes ive caught the postman and showed him his error. on a couple of occasions ive gone to the flat, buzzed them and gone up to give it to them in personGassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
