In fairness, whilst it does sound dumb as fk, how long now have electricals all come with plugs? I was bought up (DOB 77) knowing how to do a plug, could someone not raised doing it all the time maybe not realise that you could cut a moulded plug back to 3 wires?

She was born in 61, she even knows how to fit a plug.
We are both of an era when you used to have to buy a plug to go with your new electrical item.

That is dumb then! laugh

If she were 25 I'd consider letting her off.

Now we live in an era where every flex comes with its own plug moulded on ... can you even buy plugs?

I would guess almost certainly so, but they'll be less readily available. I bet in 1985 your local corner shop sold them!

Homebase, B&Q, lots of places buy plugs. I keep some spare for testing lights before installing them.

Trade her in for a 25yo and then you won't be wound up if it happens again.

Wife puts on a movie which contains lots of dialog, which without listening to, it would be impossible to follow the plot.

Then proceeds to talk all the way through the film and then once she has the workplace gossip off her chest has the audacity to ask...

"What's happening"?

I usually switch the TV off if mine does that. It normally gets her attention.

Does your wife also ask you what's going to happen next - in a movie that neither of you have seen.

Not sure I could keep up with a 25 yo, I could maybe give her the most disappointing 2 minutes of her life

I’ve a feeling that I’ve mentioned this before, but with my wife it isn’t talking, it’s checking her Facebook on her phone.
If I freeze the TV screen, she’ll say “It’s okay, I’m listening to it.”
When I tell her that by not watching, she may miss a subtle movement or gesture on screen, she goes bananas.
At other times, I hear an imperceptible gentle snore, and see that her eyes are closed, so I turn the TV off, or switch to something I may prefer.
Without opening her eyes, she says, “I was listening to that!”

I just hit pause, listen for a few seconds then look at her with an expression of "are you done yet", after 2-3 times she just huffs at me and shuts up smile

Mine has done the we never watch anything together bit so we put on a film she wants to watch. After I've found/set up said film with her watching we will settle down to watch it at which point she will make a cup of tea/wine/other, get snacks etc. Why didn't you do that why I was getting the film ready.
So, I pause it.
Settled, start film.
Straight on her phone.
look up every 5 minutes. "who's he?" "why is that happening" "is she a goody?"
The answers being, it's been on 5 minutes you know as much as me.
She will then fall asleep.
I'll then switch to something else.
She will wake up and ask the same questions and fall asleep again.
At bedtime she will say she didn't like the film much.

Which is why everyone should have a selection of plugs, cut off dead electrical items for just such an occasion.
