Why, on TVs shows like Star Trek or the Orville' when under attack and hit by enemy fire, or they encounter some hole in space, does the ship rock and they all nearly fall over but when it banks to make a turn they all remain steady and upright.

Not sure about the others, but in Star Trek TNG, when they spoke of "inertial dampers", they really mean "artificial gravity". So when a ship was moving unexpectedly, or encountering strange gravity (like in some really strange asteroid belt) the computerwould be unable to pre-empt the change in relative acceleration and so you'd fall over if you weren't holding on. IIRC, they even switched inertial dampers to manual on occasion and forewarned the crew that it would get lumpy.

Funny thing is that on TNG, the idea of the computer not keeping up with reality seemed totally obvious, but artificial gravity seemed not too far away at all.

Not sure that's the answer as the ship never appears to lean as they turn. I'm beginning to think none of it is true. They are documentaries, aren't they?

First time I went onto a real submarine, why wasn't it like the Seaview?

And as for the Bubbleheads, ie Royal Navy divers, yep, another let down. hehe

Absolutely. Not quite a bomb as the cause, but still deadly. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_USS_Forrestal...

Because it is a 1g banked turn?

If you are in an aircraft pulling 1g it can be upside down and falling out of the sky and you would not notice anything untoward.

Also the Russian submarine the Kursk was though to have been sunk by corrosion causing a torpedo to explode unexpectedly.

On TV shows, why doesn't anyone shut the curtains at night?

I would guess;
They're "filmed in front of a "live" studio audience"
The actors all know it's about 20 past ten
The producers haven't yet had enough marching powder to give a st about continuity.

Why are characters in American sitcoms so rarely shown outdoors? UK sitcoms with studio audiences seem to manage with location filming.

In A&E with my son and have noticed that senior female nurses are called sisters. But the male equivalent is called a charge nurse. Why aren’t they called Brothers?

Why aren't all those of a similar level called "charge nurses"? That would seem the more logical question to me, there has been a move away from sex/gender linked job titles, after all.

Which curtains are we talking about?

I don't live in a TV show (at least I don't think I do but I get the occasional moment when I suddenly realise it's real life, normally when driving and it's slightly disturbing) and I don't close any curtains until I go to bed to sleep and the lounge curtains are almost never closed.

Why would it have 1g whilst in flight or stationary in space though?
