The PH Cigar Thread
Discussion
I was in London the previous Friday to meet with an old friend and work colleague.
Unfortunately, owning to several silly events we didn't have time to venture beyond his hotel lounge, but I did have time after to walk over to Fox's in St. James to enjoy a couple of Montecristo #4s in excellent company in their cigar lounge.
I was also gifted a couple of R&J Churchill tubos, but they will be given a little humidor time as they'd been purchased a few weeks earlier and, 'stored' on my friend's dresser at home.

Today is St Patrick's day apparently.
As it goes, that made a good excuse for a cigar event to celebrate.
The venue owners are Irish, though conspicuously absent, no doubt preferring to attend an event taking place simultaneously in the Dublin premises.
The evening's cigar was a vintage 2000 Partagas Serie D No. 4.
Length: 4 7/8" (124mm)
Ring Gauge: 50
Absolutely fabulous cigar.
Paired with two Irish whiskeys; Green Spot Leoville Barton Bordeaux Finished, and Redbreast 15 year old.
The latter of the two being especially nice in my opinion.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced humidor that works for a 15 or so cigars, desk size if possible.
Thanks.
I can do little better the recommend again these guys My Smoking Shop for the (pardon the term) 'budget' humidors.Thanks.
For something a little more upmarket without going crazy Humidor Discount - Adorini Humidors look pretty good to me.

My advice would be do not buy a 15 capacity humidor as you'll fill it quicker than you think and will need to buy a larger one.Thanks.
The Adorini range is a great recommendation.
Sunday afternoon/evening at the whiskey club, for a cigar tasting.
The featured cigar was an H. Upmann 42 gauge, box aged 12 years.
No cigar photo available as it's an oldie and the bands are discontinued (2006)
Normally I would expect something quite special from a well aged cigar, and I do very much like Upmanns as a rule, however this wasn't.
On the other hand, would I smoke these regularly? All day long, and again tomorrow.
A few 'leftovers' were available for sale, but unfortunately I was a bit too slow.
The alcohol pairing was English Harbour Antigua Rum. A 5 year old and a 10 year reserve.
If you like rums, of the nature of Havana Club, you'll like these.

It's too damned quiet on this thread!

I've cut down to one stick per fortnight now. Getting back in the gym etc.
Mainly been smoking Monte no.2's on a weekend evening on the balcony. Humidity has arrived here in S.E. Asia so the smoking days have to be chosen carefully. I'm not one to enjoy smoking inside anymore unless in the middle-east during the summer months.

I got my father a Montecristo Dante single for his birthday. I don't know anything really about cigars. This is going to sound pretty poor but I just went for a something that was in budget £30. Any thoughts on it? Cheers
I'd not heard of them especially, but a quick google tells me that it's 6 5/8 inches long and 48 ring gauge.Apparently a new vitola for Montecristo.
For my preferences, it's a good size for an evening smoke when the day's activities are finished and you have a good hour to spare, and a glass or two of port, cognac or whiskey.
I particularly like the flavour of Montecristos anyway.
£30 will normally get you a pretty good cigar from any Cuban maker, all things being equal.
Cigars priced beyond that mark are usually attracting a premium for their ageing or being well known as a particularly good vintage (yes, just like fine wines, if you didn't know).
All assuming he is not a cigar newbie of course.
It wouldn't make a good first time smoke for most people.
For anyone in the UK (or any other country with a high tobacco tax) who isn't aware, there are various websites that have a premises in places such as Oz, Hong Kong, Switzerland who sell and ship CC's and NC's to your door for much cheaper prices (read 50% cheaper) than you pay in a tobacco shop.
Do a google on the ins and outs.
Has worked like a charm for me 9 times out of 10 or thereabouts.
