Japanese man finds giant monkfish on a beach, cuts it open to see what's in its stomach, and then takes it home to cook it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qziliy4tbx4

You'll need to switch on the subtitles unless you're a fluent Japanese speaker. It's also pretty graphic to begin with. The guy has an incredibly popular YT cooking channel, and many of his videos have some hardcore fish slaughter and preparation. It's very...Japanese.

Interesting. I was a fishmonger for a while as a teenager and I'd go as far as removing the cheeks for meat if the head was big, but never thought to dismantle an entire head into edible pieces. The stomach bit was for the cameras benefit, cutting it open whilst in the fish just leaks nastyness everywhere. I also hope he bought it for the video and didn't find it washed up on the shore!

I guess the head is the difference between preparing for sale (and thus time/profit) and preparing for yourself when you want to squeeze the value out of every last drop. We're a wasteful lot in this country!

As much as Fish Head soup has never appealed, I guess the best I can say is I don't know what I'm missing. laugh

I was on a business trip in Japan a few years ago.
My Japanese Colleague took me out for dinner and was a bit shocked when I said I didn't want fish.

Anyway, he took me into a rather dodgy small corner place that looked more like a bar than restaurant.
Interior was painted completely black.
I asked if he could order me chicken (toriniku).
The Chef then prepared about 10 beautifully delicately prepared plates, all of which were different parts of the bird.
Chicken flesh, skin, heart, etc., etc.
Unlike the UK, chop it in half and chuck it in a deep fat frier. laugh

I had noticed there hadn't been much from him over the last year or so but had no idea the reason why.
