Drivers who dawdle at traffic lights - especially the motion sensitive lights which assume the queue of traffic has cleared and go red. Usually the dawdler gets through but everyone else behind them has to wait for the lights to go green again.

There's also a 3-way set of lights at traffic works for roadworks on the outskirts of town. These are timed rather than motion sensitive and in rush hour there is usually a decent queue waiting to get through. They are set for long enough that the queue should clear in one go but there is always someone inching forward at a few miles an hour building up a huge gap between them and the vehicle in front just in case, you know, they need to perform an emergency stop and they need 5 minutes to find the brake pedal. Consequently not everyone gets through the lights and invariably it's me sitting seething and wishing bad things on the dawdler.

Yes both of these happened to me this morning
Oh yes - then there's the ones that wait for the light to go green before even thinking about fumbling around for a gear frown
Amber: Engage. Green: Go. And I'm a dawdler, in no hurry. On he other hand, most now sit at the lights with foot on brake. It's so confusing!confused

Apparently they now allow cycling within the park - this will annoy some people pretty quickly when the assorted lycra nutters start hairing round the place (and I'll be one of them).

Right now I'm annoyed by my own inability to decide on buying a car 220 miles away (in Bingley!!) without getting to see it first...brave pills required. Unless I can prevaricate some more...
Bingley is not far from either Bradford or Keighley. Does that help you to decide?

Nope. Bikes are forbidden on my wife's rare days off. A rule I respect because I know which side my bread is buttered... wink

Tempting to go back by myself though. It's a big old park, and the area around it isn't too bad either. We'd been to the Roman Villa at Lullingstone earlier on too. I know! I know! I'm just sooo rock'n'roll.

Seething? It's not worth a seeth ASA. They're traffic lights.

You are saying it isn't worth him "seething" at the people who dawdle at traffic lights and prevent him getting through when the lights are green because they take too long. But you are saying this isn't worth it because they are traffic lights? That isn't what he said. The lights aren't the problem, the people are.

I think that's a bit unfair on Bingley!
Geographically you are correct. Other than that it's very different.

It's like saying Clifton is not far from Dewsbury. biggrin

Yup, that's how I first read his comment. But on reflection it maybe he thinks I should just chill and not get annoyed when other drivers are so wrapped up in their own little world they don't notice they are holding others up and condemning them to spend longer sitting in traffic than they want. Or worse don't care. In which case why post it in a thread dedicated to posts about things that annoy you beyond all reason confused

Either way completely illogical and therefore fits the definition (or close enough) of a non sequitur

Probably been mentioned on this thread already but for me its people that upsweep at the end of sentences which make it sound like they are asking a question, and when someone begins a reply to a question with..... So.

Here's a few from me

- People in supermarkets (usually fat bds) that lean forward with their elbows resting on the trolley handle and just shuffle along.

- Dogs

- Being stuck behind a slow driver (usually a woman) that is not paying attention to the road ahead and can be seen turning their head to the passenger and gabbing away.

- People that wear woolly hats in summer

- People that have a scarf tied in a huge knot around their neck over a t shirt in warm weather.

- Tiny people in huge cars.

- Finding my newly purchased packet of digestives are smashed to fk.

any more info, private sale ? dealer sale. I live in Bingley (or very near should I say. might be able to saunter past for you ?

Bingley and its areas is nothing like Bradford or Keighley !

anyway, my own annoyance- went to see Count Arthur strong last night at the local theatre. the bloke sat behind us who laughed uncontrollably at everything. I mean everything. to the degree of ruining it, due to his endless noise.

In this instance, traffic lights are the big picture the dawdling is a mere brushstroke. Either way it's not worth a seeth.

May I add to this people who push their trolleys sideways, rather than by the handle.

I'm not the only one then. Especially if they're struggling to see over the top of the steering wheel, trying to control something that is powerful, big and weighs a few tonne (like some of the PH'ers on here).

You realise big cars also have PAS, servo brakes etc right?

You realise it helps if you can see where you're going etc right?

Sensor operated traffic lights. Specifically a three-way set locally which refuse to recognise me when I'm cycling.

The 'main' road lights remain at green unless a vehicle wants to turn out of the 'side' road. The side road, outside of commuting time, is very quiet. I could wait an age for someone to come along in a vehicle and spark the sensors into changing to a green light.

For this reason, I seldom ride that way, but errands yesterday meant I had to suffer the wait. But then I realised that it was also a pelican crossing. So I rolled forward, pushed the button, and (horror of horrors!) then I turned out of the side road against the red light. Which, of course, according to the PH code, makes me doubly a knob. Once for cycling at all, and a second time for "running a red light" even when it was me that requested it!!!

frown
O/T: All traffic lights are sensor operated, in some respect. I have never, ever used, installed, or to my memory even seen a set based on timing only.
