The bank (at The Sign of the Dusky Nag) letter that just arrived to cheerily tell me I'm being moved to a new account..... with an 18% increase in charges listed in the panel down the right hand side.

It's probably unreasonable of me to moan, I should just vote with my mouse, shouldn't I.

But bloody 'ell - 18%

The Stop/Start on my car.

After 12 months where it decided to work precisely twice, yesterday it worked for the whole day.

This morning - normal service resumed.

Been into a local VW Indy - "No error codes so no idea what to do, you'll have to take it to a main dealer".

Ok i appreciate big stuff needs to be moved, however at 7.30 on a weekday evening?
So last night I had to endure a rolling queue of traffic for some 50 miles at 38mph on the M4 all to get past some big digger on a trailer taking up two lanes.
If they had moved it at 10 at night it would not have been any problem to anyone, but no they decide it will be moved when it is still a busy time on the motorway.
So myself and 1000s of other vehicles are all held up,i felt a bit sorry for the Irish plated National express who was probably heading for an Irish ferry and is going to have to make up 30 minutes somewhere.
I would hazard a guess, that the truck is taxed and insured and unless the police say otherwise can drive at any time it likes.

Along with you, it will have a schedule to keep to and it's quite possible that the only time the machine could be loaded or unloaded was one that corresponded with the time it was on the road.

Full beam wkers! (not the ones approaching), the ones you are following at 40 in a 60, who either...
a) fail to use full beam so you can't see the way ahead sufficiently to judge an overtake.
b) use full beam so you get a nice clear view of the road ahead, judge it to be safe, make your move and get blinded in the fking rear view mirror because cretins can't move one finger one inch to flick a switch!

I'm with the OP on this (besides the fact this is the beyond reason thread so needs no justification really).

Having hundreds/thousands of other road users inconvenienced for one vehicle is selfish, anything like this should do the majority of it's journey overnight and park up in a nearby layby/lorrypark if it needs to arrive somewhere at a scheduled time.

Is that the one where you have to keep your foot on the brake pedal, blinding those behind you, especially at night. (see retinised.)
Can't speak for anyone else, but on mine the electronic handbrake comes on automatically and you can take your foot off the brake pedal. That's completely independent of stop-start which is controlled by the clutch (on my manual gearbox car).

Obviously it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Personally I think it's a good thing to have the engine off when stationary.

Mind you, I agree that people who keep their foot on the foot brake when stationary are annoying beyond reason.

Blithly dismissing what has become a modern motoring menace which has been dicussed in motoring magazines and the Sunday Times and is a hot topic in many a public house. Whine? thank you, mine's a Shiraz.

Dogs that won’t let you overtake them.
Well my dog in particular. She tends to flag a little in the hot weather. But if I try to pass her on a narrow path she will speed up again.

I was fostering a staffy a while back and she did something even more annoying than that when she on the lead. If I was walking on the left side pavement she'd always want to sniff the hedges and corners so I'd have the lead in my left hand. When she stopped sniffing she'd come jogging up on my right side so I'd have to swap the lead to my other hand behind my back, then she'd come past me and start sniffing the hedges on the left side again. Rinse and repeat. It did my head in. I tried walking on the other side hehe but then she did the exact same thing but in reverse. Even if I kept her on a really short lead and forced her to keep next to me she would still try to walk across my path or behind me to get to the other side of me, irrespective or whether or not there was anything interesting there. irked

suspect the BMW shaky stop start might be that the engine will be longitudal even in 4pot form, golf will be transverse

bmw engine stopping will shake the car side to side, as the engine looks like this.

golf engine would shake the car front to back, or back to front, which wouldn't really be felt by the driver.

Thank you gowmonster. I am now fully up to speed. (oops! just been amusing.)
