Things that annoy you beyond reason...(Vol 4)

On the one I did (three years ago) the only thing I remember/retained was, when passing a cyclist they recommend/demand you allow sufficient room for the cyclist to fall sideways - so a 6ft cyclist requires minimum 6ft clear passing. Or you don't overtake the wretched person. No excuses. Ho hum.
On the one I did, they actually suggested using your cruise control in 30mph zones to make sure you didn't exceed the speed limit. The level of fkwittery in that suggestion was simply astounding.

I'm paranoid now... been doing that for years... sounds quite sensible doesn't it?The level of fkwittery in that suggestion was simply astounding.
ETA set to 33mph to be precise

Sensible for not breaking the limit, but in an urban environment you should surely be modulating your speed based on the conditions around you, slowing when there are parked cars where a child could dart out between them, etc. With your feet off the pedals and the car (and possibly your attention) on auto then your reaction time to an emergency is lengthened. Having said that, in stop start traffic where there are no pedestrians around, I do use the Adaptive Cruise Control to match the speed of the car in front. But I don't think that's what the instructor in the Speed Awareness Course was saying. He was literally saying "31mph dangerous, 30mph safe, put car on 30mph cruise" which just seems bonkers to me.
But, for sure, where safe to do so there isn't anything inherently wrong with using cruise. Especially adaptive / radar cruise. It's just the blanket blind mantra of "speed bad" that I found so horrific.

I enjoyed my first course. It was run by an ex advanced cop instructor.
He made it quite fun and we all learned stuff that the general public don't normally know, (inside info on traffic cops why and when they stop etc).
Second course was OK too.
1st course worked well then? He made it quite fun and we all learned stuff that the general public don't normally know, (inside info on traffic cops why and when they stop etc).
Second course was OK too.
During the first session, I was singled out by the instructor and asked why I had gone through a speed camera set at 50 at about 57 miles an hour in an area where I have passed hundreds of times before. I instantly retorted that "I hadn't been paying attention as I was talking on my phone" to hoots of laughter from everyone else!
I like to see everyone happy.

I tried to be clever and put in a message my address something like; Joe BloGgs at ya hoo dot com, they picked it up and I had a, "naughty boy" threatening email straight back!
Yes, that annoys me too. I was trying to send a seller my email address so we could bypass the eBay messaging system (not the buying, just the annoying message that doesn't tell either of us when a message has arrived reliably) and I was quite annoyed (and a bit impressed) at how many different formats I could type it in but they could still figure out it was an email address.phazed said:

A few miles from where I live there's a pair of cameras on either side of the road just after a bridge, everyone knows they're there and so slow accordingly, a lot of people don't realise that around the bend a little further on is a layby where the police like to sit further down the hill, so many, many people accelerate right after the cameras only to spot the police and then slam the anchors on, at which point it's too late!!!!

Yep, with you on that.
On thread, it does annoy me how many drivers get right up my chuff whilst I'm doing 33 in a 30 on the cc, disappear like magic into the rear distance when we reach a speed camera, then reappear on my bumper once the speed camera's passed.
My pet hate is where people stop miles away from the traffic light, then creep forward a little, wait a few seconds the creep forward a little and repeat until the light goes green and then just sit there like they have no idea what the green glowing thing means. On thread, it does annoy me how many drivers get right up my chuff whilst I'm doing 33 in a 30 on the cc, disappear like magic into the rear distance when we reach a speed camera, then reappear on my bumper once the speed camera's passed.

Due to my job I can be unable to answer my personal phone for hours at a time, one of my friends knows this but instead of just texting me he will ring and ring and ring endlessly. It’s not uncommon to pick my phone up during my break to 30+ missed calls. That’s pretty annoying.
More annoying is when the person who's phone it is leaves it on their desk and goes to a meeting. Then everyone else has to hear the phone go off 30 times. Tell your friend to not ring 30 times as it really is ish behaviour, its what voicemail and text are for, to leave a message. leigh1050 said:
