Blood rage is a Coolminiornot.com published game, about vikings and mythology, good fun.

Imperial Assault by Fantasy flight is also great fun, less involved cash wise than X-wing game, as it has become an arms race and only csertain internet play lists dominate. Armada is the capital ship version with star destroyers etc, and is more slow paced and tactical.

We run a local gaming group for wargames and tabletop games and we see a lot of variety.

So many new games coming out, it really is golden age of board games

Set is a good family card game. Easy to learn and quite addictive.

Really surprised no one has mentioned magic the gathering.

My missus got me into it, and it's like cardboard crack...worth checking out the preconstructed intro decks/duel decks/event decks if you want to start playing it, has a lot of depth and scope, but isn't too hard to pick up the basics.

I've probably got around £400 worth of cards now.

This is why. It is a good game but ruined IMO with the rare cards and expense getting them.

Netrunner does a very similar thing, without the pot-luck for the cards.

Whilst not card or board this is an excellent game and really quite difficult to master.

We hammer this and backgammon on our boys trips.

It's just 'Liar Dice' in a posh package. Played it all the time as a kid.

(Decent game mind)

Currently started playing Forbidden Desert which is ace. As someone that grew up with non co-op board games that all seemed to revolve around rolling dice this is a real joy as it's quite different.

Just ordered up Carcassonne (new edition) off of Amazon Prime for £15. Result! Looking forward to it.

The Resistance looks like a great (5 people) party game - mainly of the back of the TableTop youtube channel's show on it!

I'm a big fan of Ticket to Ride, though I haven't played any of the expansions.

One night Ultimate Werewolf is really good fun too.

Anyone played Betrayal at the House on the Hill? Similar to Carcassone as far as the board goes I think, and very entertaining.

Just ordered Ticket To Ride Europe off the back of recommendations here.

Looks a little more involved than the US one, perhaps some shortfalls ironed out?

Steve Evil - gutted I didn't pick up a copy of Pandemic Legacy when I was Christmas shopping...

One question, you mention sticking stuff on the board/tearing cards up - are these reversible changes?! Otherwise you get a single 'season' then bin the game?

Ticket to Ride Europe just been ordered. Pandemic and a couple of highly rated Carcassonne expansions are in my wishlist.

I searched high and low, ended up finding a copy for £55 which then cost another £12 for delivery, has been worth it so far, the shared experience and constant surprises are both excellent. Apparently it's going to be reprinted in March.

As to the tearing up cards aspect and putting stickers on, you could not tear the cards up and peel off the stickers once you're done, but the finality of things is part of the appeal for me, much like I couldn't recreate another memorable dinner again (not necessarily just the food, but the conversations and stories that went with it), I don't think that detracts from it in any way. The stickers and writing on the board at the end are all reminders of our successes and failures throughout the season and would be totally unique to the way our group has played. There is a lot that gets revealed throughout the season that wouldn't be the same once you've experienced it, so although I'd enjoy playing through the season again, it wouldn't have the same impact.

All that said, you will still be able to play a regular game of pandemic with what you have in the box once you're done. It also suggests you play a few games of regular pandemic before you start the legacy aspect and tells you how to do that, think we played about 7 games until everyone in the group felt comfortable enough to play for keeps.

If you fancy a bruising experience, Arkham Horror is one. You play against the game as a group, and it doesn't play fair.

I can reccomend the 1910 card expansion for the American board (and I guess the 1912 for Europe) bigger cards and more of them I always play "the big game" now.

I'm after Europe now but waiting for a more affordable price.

I paid £31 on Amazon.

Seems a lot for a board game!

You can save money by getting the German Version ...

http://www.amazon.de/Days-of-Wonder-7232-Europa/dp...

... Zug um Zug as it is in Germany is language independent (Ie nothing is written on the cards/board in german)

... you might need to find the rules on-line and print them off - but you will save a bit of cash :-)

And yes I have the German Version :-)

The river expansion is brilliant - we play it in two different ways. Sometimes we follow the rules, and place meeple as we're placing river tiles. Other times we place the river and then start the game as normal. Works well either way, but different dynamic between the two approaches.
