That may be so, but when it's only a 2.5 hour flight to, say, Italy, I can go without the meals and accept that they will efficiently get me there for a ridiculous price. I can then spend more on the private villa rental for a week or 2

Read again. I'm not talking about the passengers, I'm talking about the flight deck who are doing more than one 2.5hr sector a day.

1) "4 o'clock in the morning" would have kept the same scansion, without the tautology.

2) I would think that most consider 4am to still be night-time, rather than the morning.

I read this article and what I want to know is, why did nobody think to ask for a roll of duct tape to cover over the "offending" words during the flight, rather than spend several thousand pounds to rebook an inconvenience everyone? I'd suggest that duct tape is widely available at all airports and I know of at least 2 rolls at East Midlands Airport.
