"Dear Wayne,

Buy a fire extinguisher. Safety is important and you should always be properly equipped."

Seriously why do people do these things? Half arsed threats just run the risk of finding someone who'll push back harder. Plus writing it down is bonus stupidity. Life is much easier if you keep it friendly.

Cheeky little scamps are about these parts again.

In the last 3 days:

  • Tried to mow MrsBrettMRC down in a hilux when she confronted them about hare coursing in the fields (police nearly interested)
  • Broken into a neighbours outbuildings yesterday and stolen the usual mix of chainsaws, strimmers etc (police *almost* interested)
  • Sat in a transit van in a very odd place c9pm last night with a couple of their mates in the fields with flashlights (police on the scene in 10mins for this one, so fair play...not quick enough to catch them though)
If I see the Hilux **** again I will be taking some action I think. (He legged it on Sunday by the time I got down the drive and into the field gate)

I love how he later sent a follow up letter to withdraw his offer of £250 as it "could be misconstrued as a bribe". No, really, what makes him think that?!

A quick Google throws up all sorts of history on the guy; cannabis farm, stabbed, attacked at home, asbestos removal, chef (?!), lots of dissolved companies, involved in all sorts basically.

Not very good at it either given how he bounces from one mess to another while attracting attention.

On the upside if someone did directly respond to his interesting line in persuasive letters he'd have no clue who to actually blame for whatever happened as he's got so much history.

A Basildon Council spokesperson said: "Basildon Council is aware of the current unauthorised encampment in the car park at Hannakins Farm Community Centre in Billericay and is working in partnership with Essex Countywide Traveller Unit and Essex Police to take appropriate action."

Hannakins Farm is a sports centre with lots of football pitches which are utilised by lots of school age children, all activities have been cancelled. In fairness to Basildon Council, they persevered with the eviction of the Crays Hill site - so I expect this lot will get moved on. But why the tax paying, hard working, honest population have to put up with this is beyond belief. I suspect every rant and argument about how to resolve this is already covered in this thread. However, I doubt that the 'Travellers' have seen any change.

Well the scummy bds have moved on.... however they did leave their calling card behind. Apparently it's a bit of a wheeze to churn up the playing fields so no-one can play on them now. s

The Belgian police are a lot more proactive when it comes to itinerant Esox.

First thing the caravan utilising nomadic traveller says is "I'm on bail here."

Funny that.

Seeing as they become 'permanent pitches', I wonder if the council are seeing a son who hasn't given a st about where his parents are living until close to the time he can inherit the place once they die?

Apparently Basildon Council have said they will repair the ploughed up football pitches F.O.C. - I think they were embarrassed into doing this as the speed at which they were removed from Radford Way Car Park (Council property = 1 day) was noticeably different to the eviction from Hannakins Farm = 1 week). The convoy has subsequently pitched up at the Sporting Village in Basildon and has been served another eviction notice.

The owner of Hannakins Farm had urged residents to contact John Barron MP. That did appear to get things moving.
Locks and gates damaged, football pitches damaged, businesses closed for days, stuff stolen and I would bet some crap will be left behind to be cleared up. No hint of anyone being prosecuted, so long as they are moved on - it's the best we can hope for. Pathetic.

I just don't get why we're supposed to respect this way of life.

I have had the joy of being visited 3 times by my local traveller friends. Well I assume the first 2 were them as they take a annual trip for 3 weeks near my house in France and conveniently the crime rate goes through the roof with my house being broken into twice shockingly the night after we left almost as if they were watching. That and catching 2 of them half way up my drive. The french please being very helpful shrugged and said proof its them.

The third was a much worse affair. Got a phone call saying they had pitched up in the land around my factory which led to the most stressful and confrontational 3 days of my life. Police turned up and told me to go home and they would keep an eye on them which they were very persistent about. I refused and stayed at my premises which although the Police kept telling me they were peaceful and wouldn't cause any harm they felt the need to stay there to protect me though. So I spent 3 days living in my factory whilst being verbally abused and generally intimidated had to love how they filmed every confrontation trying to get me to start a fight.

It was unbelievable how they played it all by the book to maximise there stay. Police told me Sunday afternoon there would be a medical emergency of some kind 2 hours later ambulance turns up. I was told by the Police to remove my skips incase there children hurt themselves making me liable.

The bit that really made me angry though was being told the Police had powers to get rid of them but didn't have the resources to do it as they would need a riot team and what was the big deal I HAVE INSURANCE. But on the other hand they are trying to tell me they are a nice bunch well if thats the case what do you need a riot van for. The copper really didn't like it when I asked if it would be fine for me to smash up there car or brake someones legs as obviously the police car is insured and we have the NHS.

Nice side was that I got thanked by everyone on the industrial estate and they had a whip round and got us a bottle of champagne.

Sorry for the rant but happened last year and still makes me angry.

P.S Funniest bit was the traveller complaint to the police that they can't run there business whilst they were there. I pointed out to the police that they can watch my company all day if they like why can't they watch theres?
