They rely on being the biggest gang with the biggest teeth in town. I'm sorry but go back a few years and that was the role of the police force, especially in respect of facing down gangs.
The police are frightened of them in my experience.

They won't even go into the camps/sites.

It absolutely disgusts me, because I know for a fact that if I did something wrong they would be on me like a ton of bricks. Easy pickings for them.

But ring them and tell them you have just been burgled/robbed/assaulted by travellers and they won't want to know.

I'm no big fan of the Police, however I am respectful towards them, but it's one of those situations where it makes you want to scream "I'm paying for this service, now get in that camp and arrest them all!".

Regardless of your political alliance, it is Pretty obvious that the majority of the public haven't much faith in Theresa May, seemingly she hasn't even got much support from even her own party! Why on earth she hasn't grasped this issue by the horns, and change the way this scum is dealt with is beyond me. The public would lap it up, be chuffed to bits, and probably think that we had a leader with a spine. Theresa, if you're reading, you can thank me later.

Every year here in Cambridge we have Midsummer Fair, on a common near the centre of town, One year the local newspaper seemingly saw no irony in having an article on one page celebrating this lovely tradition, pictures of the Mayor in their regalia etc, and on the page opposite an article about the local residents being utterly fed up with the spike in local crime, local pubs having to close, and residents being understandably pissed off with the salt-of-the-earth fair folk stting in their front gardens.

I'm delighted that this thread has been allowed to continue. It's pretty clear that people are able to relate their own true past experiences with these people. It's a far cry from the comfy cosy pc gone mad drivel elsewhere.

Not disagreeing one bit with the opinions on the thieving shoddy block paving bds but we've had a proper Romany living down the lane from us the last month. Proper little wooden horse drawn caravan and about 5 horses - apparently he's a legitmate horse whisperer and helps people with training etc. He's a very nice polite type of guy and not left one single piece of rubbish or litter, apart from the grass being shorter from his horses you'd never know he'd been there. Pretty sure his view of travellers wouldn't be too far off most peoples on PH.

Indeed. Roma is an actual culture and people, and sadly now very rare thanks to the efforts of much of continental Europe during the first half of the 20th Century...

Hence why when the well funded Irish Travellers decided they wanted a bit of special legal protection, they brought the Roma under their wing for the case at the ECJ (or ECHR, can't remember). Nothing like a bit of collective guilt to assist in misguided blanket decisions.

Two of the very best people I have ever met were Roma (sadly both now passed away - the sons are alright but not a patch on the parents). Amazingly dedicated, funny, kind and talented - with a work ethic and outlook on life that would put most (including me) to utter shame.

The wife had a nasty blue smudge on her inner arm. She was born in 1942...

I agree with this completely./
Last year we had some issues with oirish travellers causing havoc. It hit working class people had sports fields damaged ,businesses and homes robbed etc.
I was openly critical of them in a facebook group and received lots of threats which I expected. What I didn't anticipate was the amount of bile aimed at me accusing me of
Being like Hitler
Not understanding how they are treated like the Jews in the war
Not understanding that the life of a traveller is different and that "only God can judge them"
A lot of the posts were (after I looked them up) from left wing leaning types. In fact I would say around 60% of them were from such types.
The "travellers" just called me stuff like gorga bd etc

Why has my post simply saying 'rule of law should be enforced' been deleted?

It looks like the ethnic cleansing comment went, and yours was swept up with it.

A local landowner was attacked by travellers whom he caught hare coursing on his land. Unfortunately for them, the landowner's Polish farm workers turned up. They were bigger, uglier and totally up for a fight.

An even bigger reason to take the opposite stance.

Oh what a shame, one group of crims was attacked by another group of crims. And now they want justice using our court system. Funny that. Wonder why they thought they had large sums of cash. Surely the law abiding driveway specialists would pass everything to their accountants rolleyes

I was watching a police bodycam programme on Dave at 7 tonight and a large portion of it focused on travelling types.

Essentially they moved into the grounds of a National Trust property but because it was getting later in the day and they had kids they were allowed to stay the night. They then opted not to leave in the morning as previously agreed.

Things then shifted to a nearby petrol station and we were shown CCTV of travellers coming in with large empty handbags (and their young kids) and helping themselves to everything. A member of staff challenged one so she put one item back then stormed out.

Next a local Frankie & Bennys called for the police, large group of travellers refusing to pay for their meals due to a hair being found in some coleslaw. Police found no evidence of this but let them leave after paying a fraction of the bill.

This was punctuated with the police bring threatened, feral kids climbing on police cars and them openly admitting that they wouldn't go in to deal with known individual offenses as it would most likely get the rest of the travelling folks upset.

Not one single arrest was made.

I like how when they need help, they decide the police are allowed on the site.
