I'm gutted about Brian Cant.

Chigley and Trumpton was the background to my kids childhood. I bought this BBC album when they were little and I still know every word. I used to play it in the car and we all sang along - on one occasion all the way to Bordeaux. It is still on my shelf.

The words and music weren't his, of course, but his performances were spot on and brought it to life. It's the kind of music that is almost wasted on kids. The lyrics flow and fit the music as well as anything I have ever heard in my life.

"I like my job as a carpenter
There's nothing I'd rather be.
I've had my tools for many long years,
They're all good friends to me."

"I've chisels and saws all clean and sharp,
A jack and a smoothing plane.
I know that oak will plane up true,
While mahogany changes grain."

Rest in peace.

Its sad to see names like that go, really remember him from Play School and Play Away, though its quite strange to think he was well into his forties when I was watching those programmes, kids tv presenters these days are generally a lot younger, more late teens to about 30.

Saw him a few years ago being interviewed by Phul Jupitus at the Edinburgh Fringe

Top man and got a standing ovation. I think the youngest there was about 50. Got all the DVD of
Trumpton,, Camberwick Green and Chigley.
