A few years back, I was on a plane coming back from Holiday on Malta, and got chatting to a woman next to me about thirty years old.

She explained she had married a Maltese guy who owned a sports shop in Malta, but was going back to England to visit her father, who was having a big 70th birthday bash in a marquee in his house near Clitheroe.

Thought no more about it.

Then, later on that year, on a plane going to Malta, I sat next to a lady about 70 years old, who explained she was from Clitheroe and was going visiting her daughter who had married a guy who owned a Sports Shop in Malta.

Bearing in mind there are around 250 different seats I could have sat on, what are the odds on that?

When I told her, we both couldn't believe it.

Have you any similar stories?

Years ago while on holiday in Lanzarote with parents I went to the kids club where there was a leader called Steve who had a real strong scouse accent. About 10 years later we were staying in a hotel in Orlando and the same guy was in the lobby working as a rep for one of the major travel agencies. Thought that was pretty conincidental.

It's good that topics come up for discussion time and time again, otherwise the topic would disappear into obscurity never to be mentioned again.

I always cut n paste this for these threads. It's all true.

1981 and my best friend and me decided to jack in our jobs and head down to Australia through Africa, India, Nepal and East Asia.

We first flew to Cairo. Our plane was delayed and we found ourselves wandering the city centre, after midnight, knocking on hostel doors trying to find a place to sleep for the night. Eventually, we discovered a small hotel. The owner told us that he had a three bed room with two free beds. We could have it if the present occupant agreed to share. He popped upstairs to talk to the chap and returned to tell us that we could share the room.

The occupant of the room was an American who was just travelling the World by himself. A really good bloke, we spent a couple of days in his company and then moved on.

Nine months later, my friend and I had reached India. We'd travelled by train from Bangalore up to Delhi and were wandering up the Pahar Gunj searching for a place to stay. Everywhere seemed to be full. Except one small guest house. The owner told us that he had a room. But we would have to share with the present occupier. We agreed and we were led up to the room.

Where we found, sitting on one of the beds, our American friend from Cairo.

As a kid I had a picture of a Mk1 Lotus Cortina on my wall, it was a 6 character reg no, so in the style of 123 ABC.

Decades later and my sister in law bought her first car when she passed her test, a 1991 Fiesta, with the same numbers and letters, plus the J prefix, so the equivalent of J123 ABC.

I love this. Read it a few times. Are you still in contact with him?

Probably objected to you taking a picture of the fantastic moment.

Years ago, my Mum & Dad were on their way to Lanzarote for a holiday. The flight was on my Father's birthday, so Mum thought she'd ask the crew if it was ok for him to visit the cockpit (back in the days when you could). She did it discreetly while Dad was visiting the loo. A short time later, the stewardess returns, and tells my Dad that the pilot would like to see him. He wanders off, and sticks his head in the cockpit, to be wished happy birthday etc. He got chatting with the pilot, and mentions that things have changed since the last time he'd been up the front, while he was doing his RAF national service in Benghazi, Libya. After a bit of a chinwag, it turned out that the pilot had been a frequent visitor to his base, and remembered him!
Apparently, they talked for a bit about how things used to be back then, and Dad left with a very surreal birthday surprise.
Mum was wondering why he'd been gone so long !

Went on my first ever holiday 15 years ago with my ex & her parents... Just getting comfy on the plane prior to take off when in comes her parents next door neighbour & sat in the row beside us..... Wondered why she tried everything to avoid eye contact.. Turns out she was going on holiday with her "bit on the side" hehe

Bought a 4x4 the other day and was saying to my gf that I'd ideally have preferred a Mazda Bongo Friendee if only for the name (but it was out of my budget).

That afternoon, driving along the M3, and a Mazda Bongo Friendee passes by. WTF. I've never ever seen one in the flesh before. "THAT'S A MAZDA BONGO FRIENDEE!!" I may have shouted excitedly.

I've read this a few times. I think it was the next-door neighbour on holiday with her bit on the side?

I dont know if this passes for incredible but I have been to Florida the last two years running and each visit I got off a roller coaster and had a) a school friend of the kids jump into their seat as they got out and b) had a friend jump out of the seat behind us.

Wasn't the Amar Hotel by any chance, was it?

Went on a med cruise about 5 years ago with the wife.

Her friend who lives 300 miles away mentioned to her about a month before we went that she was also going on a cruise with her husband. Turned out it was the same ship, same date, and they were 2 doors up from us.

I bought a car around two years ago, from a single-outlet dealer 200 miles from where I live, and he took my old car in PX. That old car now belongs to a chap who lives in my street.
