Garage Floor - Porcelain Tiles - Suppliers
Discussion
Hi, I'm looking for some help in recommendations for suppliers of garage floor tiles (porcelain).
I'd of course like them to be fairly slip resistant and hard wearing - BUT it is a light use non-commercial garage so doesn't need to be extremely hard wearing.
Area - 49sqm, and willing to spend about £1000 on tiles, so up to ~£20sqm. I'd aim for 300x300 size but would consider upto 600x600
Pref black and white check with no patterns/speccles.
Anyone fitted something like this in the past, if so - where did you get the tiles?

We've just tiled our garage using these - http://www.ctdtiles.co.uk/p-4695-vitra-dotti-ivory...
Dealt with our local CTD branch who were very helpful. We used an industrial adhesive to withstand a) the temperature the garage can be and b) the weight of the cars.
CTD cost for tiles, adhesive, grout for 46sqm of tiles was just under £1k. The adhesive cost more than the tiles.

same tiles are less here: http://www.directtilewarehouse.com/dotti-anti-slip...
CTD aren't necessarily cheap for adhesive etc. as I found I could do better elsewhere depending on brand. A pallet was involved though, for the odd bag shipping costs make a big difference.
Also worth acquiring a trade cash account if you can't get access to someone with an account to do your buying, as has been discussed before there are huge markups on tiling stuff and the most basic account without any loyalty bonus discount will still save you 30% at CTD. Similar situation with other places.

That's about what I paid for them with the discount that CTD gave.I've just finished mine and really struggled to find decent looking ones for £20psqm so ended up with Valverdi tiles at a touch over £32.
For me the decision came down to not wanting to order online in case of any issues so went with a local shop.
Don't forget to factor in the floor prep costs. We hired a concrete grinder before using some self levelling compound. I then spent quite a while on my hands and knees checking for high spots and making sure it was 100% smooth.

The best bit about tiling is you can easily deal with bumps and undulations with the adhesive.
Thanks for the replies.
I've seen the dotti r9 tiles or a few sites, but as noted above - they dont come in black/white. Closest is ivory and anthracite. I'd need to see them up close to gauge how they'd look.
One thing is for sure - I want to do this right first time, and not have to live with tiles I'm not 100% happy about LOL

Emailed these chaps to see what they say - http://solusceramics.com
They seem to have some choice in colour and size in their 'program' range - http://solusceramics.com/shop/collections/floor-ti...

Impact - yes, they'd survive a decent impact (if they are hard enough wearing and installed without airpockets). If 1 tile gets damaged its easy enough to replace.
I've made my mind up on tiles (porcelain is best option it would seem) - I dont want a painted floor (from past experience) and just dont fancy the interlocking solutions.
The garage wont be used heavily, its more for car storage.
Looking in the projects section for Solus Ceramics, it seems they do offer the type of tile I'm after - just all the colours are a bit gray/beige

I got samples from direct tile last week of the Dotti in light grey and grey. Think I'm going to go for the darker grey. Coming in at £9ish+Vat a metre which is excellent.
Only thing I'm unsure about is what happens if I got a 2 post lift after it had been tiled.
Just drill through and use correct fixings into concrete below. The top layer of tiles will support a ramp no problemOnly thing I'm unsure about is what happens if I got a 2 post lift after it had been tiled.

I'm taking on the same job come the spring and the only thing I'm unsure about is how flat/smooth does the floor need to be? I have a new build so no issues with cracking etc.
It depends on how good the tiler is and how fussy the client is but 10mm is absolutely not a problem.I'm pretty fussy and have tiled bowed floors where I could have ground out the middle (but it was an occupied house) or raised 2" in the corners to make it flat but I laid the tiles so that unless you have a long straight edge you'd never know.
