Stronger than normal chance of severe storms tomorrow. Interesting that Netweather have selected an eastern area and fairly south - I've seen some data suggesting it will be midlands and further north. Either way - be prepared for some bigguns.

Yep, I washed the car this morning so torrential rain being forecast is the next logical thing.

I'm planning a BBQ on Sunday. There is now a weather warning for rain in Dorset.

Sorry.

Woke up just now and currently watching something weird, a crazy amount of lightning with no thunder!

Yup. In the back garden to collect the cushions off the patio set and out at sea, a flash every couple of seconds. Lightningmap shows it is quite a way away from Portsmouth right now.

Our bit of South Somerset getting a freaky lightshow, loads of thunder and has just endured a stupidly heavy deluge...

Massive storm over north Devon over night. The best I've seen for years.

Send all of the above to Derby!! Haven't seen a good storm in some time (however I do think I may have slept through the last one)

Same here - added to the annoyance we have all the meat salad and rolls!
Cannot do it inside the house due to our building works currently so struggling.

Maybe gazebos will be needed.

Massive storm does not even come close to what we had last night in Plymouth. I have never seen anything like it and doubt I ever will.

A solid two hours of noise and light, no gaps, no flashes, no individual rumbles, just light and noise, it was incredible. Like a fleet of V8s covered in strobe lights outside our house or something CGIed out of a disaster movie.

Some spectacular pictures here but even they do not convey the scale and intensity of it

The storm over Plymouth and South Wales was an MCS, around 100 miles in diameter. The sort of storm they have on the plains of the US.

Jeez! What factors let it happen here?

The storms in the US are caused by hot air pushing up from the Gulf of Mexico which the bumps against cool air spilling down from the Rockies...

This weather is very similar, very warm air pushing up from the south hitting cooler air from the west.

Sounds about right. It was bonkers, all anyone in Plymouth is talking about this morning!

Weirdly (or stupidly) I really wanted to go out in it and get some pics/videos but had to keep an eye on the kids who were not enjoying it at all!

Power of nature is bloody impressive!
