Steve McQueen? Wasn't he an alcoholic wife beater? That's not cool.
As was George Best.

Charles Dance is very cool guy. Very suave and has an aura about him.
Also cool.

It's all just very "easy" for him, isn't it? Maybe that sounds weird, but he looks and sounds like he could just glide through any meeting, social situation or conversation with grace and ease, very suave indeed yes
Easy. Yeah, that sums him up well.

I saw him on a chat show ages ago. All the younger Game of Thrones hunks were already on but he came on last, in an absolutely immaculately tailored suit, towering above all the younger short arses, and they might not as well have been there. His class, elegance and demeanour just blew them off the screen. Such presence. He wasn't even trying. As you say, easy. You've either got it or you haven't... And he's got it! Truly a lesson in star quality and sartorial elegance.
Charles Dance can also do funny:-

Mallory. To the top of the world in a tweed jacket.

It is worth tracking down a 1990s TV drama about Ian Fleming called "Goldeneye", which features Charles Dance as the creator of James Bond, focusing on Fleming's time in Naval Intelligence during WW2. Here is Dance as Fleming with underrated actress Lyndsey Baxter, playing a Wren whom Fleming seduces. They have quite a smoky scene in Fleming's stylish 1940s cool bloke apartment.

If you measure coolness in terms of how someone carries themself, then I’m struggling to see past Barack Obama, the guy is just effortless.

You could (and looks like we have done!) discuss this ‘till the cows come home, because there’s so many variables, not least that no-one seems to agree on what coolness actually represents hehe

Perhaps tellingly, I’ve never actually met anyone personally who struck me as being inherently “cool”. Met plenty charismatic, talented and interesting people, but none that I walked away thinking “damn, that person is very cool”

Doing business law, with a bit of sports and media thrown in, I get to meet some very cool dudes as clients. Lots of knob heads too, of course.

Barack Obama is on a level of cool that is measured in units known as CaryGrants.

OK, his presidency was not flawless, and he dropped some bks, but overall he remains very cool in very many ways.

A mate of mine from 9RB represents Madonna.

I said "must be exciting when she comes to chambers".

"I go to her..." came the reply.

My Madonna story goes thus:

New York City, early to mid 90s, I am lining up for a table at Odeon in TriBeCa. Madonna is two ahead of me in the line. Cool thing 1: the Maitre D' makes Madonna wait in line for a table. Cool thing 2: Madonna waits in line for a table.

When I was a tiny sprog pupil in chambers, I saw some massively fat bloke on the sofa in reception waiting to see my then Head of Chambers. The fat bloke was Marlon Brando. We were told to watch out for dodgy dudes, as there had been some walk-in thefts. I saw a bloke on the stairs who looked like a ratcatcher or someone who had come to do the drains. I dobbed him in to one of the admin people. It turned out that he was a Pink Floyd. I cannot recall which one. He had come to see a colleague.

I have represented Bryan Ferry and Roger Moore, but have not met either of them.

I have also stood outside a pub and drunk pints with Rosamund Pike and Patrick Marber, but that was a college fundraiser do thing, not a work thing. It was a black tie do, and Ms Pike was wearing Balenciaga and Blahniks. She was drinking Young's bitter.

How's that?

Give it a bit and he'll only have half as much money.

I would assume he would have the smarts to cover that eventuality. I dont think his last ex took half did she?

You'd have to - he'd never make enough money to buy his own. Gotta love how people make out that Trump has a clue about business! Or, indeed, anything.

Mayhap, but have you picked up a news website lately? Plan Trump does not appear to be going quite as well as some had hoped. Part of the problem appears to be that there is no Plan Trump.

Otherwise, Kenton Cool.
He led the Great Sir Ranaulf Finnes up Mount Everest and the Eiger, has summited Mount Everest 12 times, is an all round good chap and very grounded.
If you get the chance to hear him speak do.
And probably the best name in the business.
I was looking to see if anyone mentioned Kenton. Cool by name, Cool by nature. As knk said a great speaker and a humble, humorous man.

For me, in the sub-zero category is Joss Naylor.
Still running at 81, probably still faster than most. Hard as nails - "being hard is the hard part" and rightfully owns the title "Iron Man". Looks hot in a pair of bedraggled Ron Hills.

I've met him a couple of times, he seems like a decent chap, despite it all. Maiden are my absolute favourite band too - I've seen them over a dozen times all over the world, sadly only Manchester and Aberdeen on this tour frown
Very much my favourite band too, have been for the last 22 years since I picked up a few of their albums at a car boot sale. I've seen them a few times, Oberhausen's the furthest I've been to see them but Twickenham was a cracking venue.
He comes across very well and seems decent. A mate of mine knows Dave Murray fairly well and says much the same about him too.
The only thing that spoiled the Twickenham gig for me was the person I was with - my girlfriend at the time! I was a tad fresh and very happy, she refused to even stand up (we were in the stands) during Hallowed be the Name towards the end, the miserable tt just sat there whilst I jumped up and down and sang my heart out.

She then refused to drive the car I'd taken along (Volvo S60) as it was "too big" so we slept in it until morning due to her unwillingness.

That was the last time I saw her, thank God!
