Afternoon all.

I'm having difficulty getting my Under 7 football team to understand that they shouldn't all be running for the ball at the same time.

I've tried demonstrations, diagrams and other visual aids but some of them just can't grasp it.

So, I was thinking of filming one of our training sessions and then editing a compilation video of what they did wrong and what they should have done.

I would like to do something like they do on sky sports/MOTD where they highlight players, move them about on screen ad arrows etc.

I'm not looking for full on touch screen stuff. Just the most simple way of going about creating something similar to below. Maybe photo shop and premier?

Thanks

48V, I see wht you are trying to do, but I don't think it will work.

I would aim to get them used to formations. Getting back into a certain position after whatever action has completed.
Get them used to where they should be in relation to others on the pitch, and more importantly when there is a kickoff or throwin, or freekick, where they need to be.

Try using small circles on the floor to show them where to get back to in a certain situation.

It is intended to be done in a fun manner to highlight a point.

Getting slightly OT. But we concede a lot of goals from our outfield players all going to the ball. We also miss out on goals due to the same reason.

I'm thinking if the can see themselves doing it then they might understand what it is I am trying to get them to do.

Most of them watch matches on Sky. So they might enjoy it.

Done all that for some time. They all know what to do fro kick offs, goal kicks, throw ins ect. Sometimes I think too well as they can sometimes be still getting back into position when the other team has started. But it all goes out of the window as soon as the ball os in play.

Nice idea, but I don't think it will work with U7's. I think they will find it hard to relate what they see on a screen to their collective/individual actions on the pitch.

For something like this I'd try the "freeze" technique. Catch the unwanted situation/formation/positioning happening 'live' (this is what training sessions are for!) and quickly shout "freeze, everybody stand still..!". Immediately ask them what might happen next, how could this be improved, is there anything we could do better etc? One of them will pipe up with something close enough to the answer, and the others will take note of the praise you give as a result. Keep doing this and they'll eventually understand!

I've used an app called 'coaches eye' (i've used it on phone/ ipad, hopefully not just ios app) you can take videos, then draw over them kinda like sky sports do, then edit them together, do videos side by side etc..... give that a go.

I think you need to keep it fun/part of a game. Video playback is getting a bit serious at <7! You are asking a lot of self awareness, memory, etc.

Just downloaded that to the iPad. Think I'll give that a go down at the archery club on my next visit to try and find out why I'm useless.

My son's coach (U7) just tells them a position to play and they stay roughly there. None of this running round in clusters nonsense!

I could do that with mine. But thats not how I want them to develop. I'm trying to get them to react to situations as they unfold. To pick the right option. Sometimes going to a team mate is the correct option. Sometimes its not. Its very difficult to visualise this on the pitch.
The purpose of the video is not in depth analysis. Just to show them other options.

I know what you are saying. Not as simple as just telling the kids something at that age.

We are in a tournament at Skegness at the weekend. That could be fun!

It's easy with me, everything is different every time.

I've just remembered that I took some slow mo video of one of our juniors shooting 3 arrows a few weeks back as one of our coaches said his release was wrong and that he was just releasing with his fingers and then just pushing his arm back. So I've just put it into the software and done a side by side of 2 of his shots and its amazing how they are the same, You would think that it is the same shot side by side if it wasn't for the movement in the background. one thing I did pick up on was that just a fraction of a second before he releases you can see his bow hand close on the grip instead of staying open. So I've saved that and will show the coach on Thursday night.
