Saw some shoes I like the look of online. Googled for some more pics as the brand's website only has pics of just the shoes and I wanted to see how they look being worn. In all the pics they were being worn without socks! I couldn't possibly conceive of wearing shoes without socks. Maybe it's a millennial thing and I'm out of touch at 42, or maybe I'm right, I don't know. Maybe the style of these shoes is such that they'd look stupid being worn with socks. Maybe I'm overthinking it. What's the PH consensus?

Are you sure they aren't wearing the very small slip on socks that have become popular too? They only go just above your heels and attach just over the tips of your toes... You wouldn't see them in that photo smile

Alternatively my dad hasn't worn socks for decades... Some people just prefer it!

They do look stupid. I would say they look gay but that's probably not allowed.

The Ivy League look from the 60s has been driving menswear for decades.

^As above, loafers typically worn without socks in a more casual setting. Not a new thing.

If the loafers are to be worn in a more formal setting (and depending on type of loafer in question), they can be worn with socks.

Plenty of stuff online about this.

At the end of the day, it's only guidance. You can do what you want. smile

What were you planning to wear those shoes with out of interest?

They remind me of the plimsolls we had to wear for PE in my junior school in the 80s. I think we wore them without socks.

had to wear them in the 90s too. I hated those things, they were so uncomfortable, hard and with no cushioning. if you toe punted a real football that's your toes gone. kicked it normally that's your foot gone. I neveer understood why they made us wear them in primary school.

Textured surface that's catching the light.

Possibly, but it's the "sock free" look that bothers me as much as anything.

I've multiple pairs of loafers in multiple colours / materials that I wear all the time and wouldn't dream of wearing socks with ... they don't end up reeking like trainers do when worn the same way

That's counting me out of ever wearing them then, I cannot abide not having socks on my feet, in fact the only time I don't wear socks is when I'm at the pool or the beach in flip-flops. (the only locations where flip-flops are acceptable IMHO)

and don't even get me started on those god-awful "trainer sock" things.

Sounds like you've gone nose blind.

When you wear socks, all the sweat and dead skin cells are absorbed by the socks and are removed in the washing machine. If you don't wear socks, that same biological soup is absorbed by the shoes.

You could always clean the inside of your shoes with wipes or something. Loads of these loafers are supposed to be worn without socks. It's quite common in warm climates.

Some of you need to get out more. hehe

What?

This check out these guys. No socks they look great!

If that is a bit edgy for you though there's plenty of casual loafers that are definitely more normal to wear without socks.

I wouldn't wear the more formal leather loafers without socks. Or at all. But these kind of more casual suede driving type loafers are easily no sock shoes.

There are loads of shoes that you wear with shorts that would look ridiculous with socks on.
