Hi all, Does anyone know what type of pond weed this is in my mums pond?

Looks like fluffy candy floss, tried blanket weed killer and it doesn't touch it. It's mainly attached to the bottom liner (rather than floating on top)

Thanks in advance

It does appear to me to be some type of blanket algae but it's not that relevant. Even if you kill it off it will regrow unless you remove the nutrients from the system. Consider blocking sunlight, inflowing water that may contain excess nutrients, dead vegetation in the pond, over feeding of the fish, sludge removal from the base. Do you have a pump and filter, is that working correctly? Consider a UV lamp to kill off algae & bacterial. Also look at pH and buffering capacity, slightly alkaline will apparently assist with natural nitrogen removal.

Yes, just blanket weed, remove as much as you can by rake/stick twiddling.

Usually it vanishes of its own accord, the conditions it flourishes in are actually quite narrow in range, it's usually just a phase.

If it's persistent, change something!

I would go so far as to say ignore it. As it's covering the bottom of the pond it will contain useful microlife and I imagine the fish will grub around in it. Plus it's better to look at that than a black plastic liner. Although this probably a type of Spirogyra, commonly blanket weed floats and get tangled up with everything clogging the pond, this does not appear to be doing that.

Cheers guys. Yes it does cover the ugly black plastic liner so isn't too bad.

The water is crystal clear which I guess makes it look worse than it would if it wasn't.

Might just leave it then. There's a pump and uv light so maybe that needs changing.

Thanks again.

The UV light will only kill algae which go through it (ie suspended in the water) not filamentous types growing from the bottom. And killing the suspended algae will make the water clear, allowing the light to the bottom, where the filamentous stuff can use it.

Deal with the nutrients, or shade the pond, is the way to do it.

You can put some small bails of barley straw into the pond, they naturally help get rid of blanket weed.
