An Alfa Romeo 156: the Ups and Downs of an Addiction.
Discussion
Hello, my name is Alfaholic and I'm an addict.
I'm a long time reader and occasional poster. Consider this the introduction to some true tales about money, drugs and cars.
Reader discretion advised: This thread will have quick car, Class B. and prescription drug content but no graphic images. Other threads are available.
In line with PH rules and to protect the privacy of others - names, both individual and commercial, will be changed.
And in the true spirit of PH I'll try and include a nice car pic.
Here's one. Not an Alfa 156 obviously.
This PIC link is currently under maintenance.
Why all the preamble you may ask? Good question.
Well, I've got one or two things to confess, an addiction to confront and a few anecdotes to share. Plus I have a couple of professional axes to grind and wrongs to right. In addition I simply find recreational writing therapeutic.
Who am I? Recovering Alfaholic isn't my real PH username. Given the nature of my work and the illicit, on occasion seedy, nature of my pleasures it seems prudent to add another layer of anonymity.
I'm hoping this thread will act as part confessional, part health warning and it might also provide a bit of light relief and self help for those who still suffer.
In addition it might show the reality of addiction, depression and the lighter side of treatment and hopefully, if not ultimately, full recovery. For any others with these conditions I really do sympathise.
My name is Recovering Alfaholic and I'm both a drug and car addict. I'm now 280 days prescription drug free but it's only been 63 days since my last Alfa fix.
// Addiction, depression and substance abuse in any form is no laughing matter. If you think you have a problem please seek professional help. It s never too late //

Im also a 156 owner (v6) and have been for over 8 years, its been a very reliable workhorse never letting me down and costing just a couple of grand in that time in servicing/parts etc
To be honest im not a fan of the marque but at the time it was half the price of a 4 year old 330i..
Mines going to a new home soon..

Afternoon guys, nice to see you, I very much appreciate your taking the effort to post here.
In delayed response to the Mr. Goodwin's not unreasonable request for pictures of previously mentioned motor.
Well Mike, here she comes in all her silver glory. Quick disclaimer first.
Pro-photographers of a sensitive nature look away. Low res Android. From ten feet away I see a bit of 155 DNA don't you TooMany2cvs? Quite a good looker for an old slapper despite being a bit focus fuzzy.
This PIC link is currently undergoing maintenance.
In January of this year I paid rather less than £500.00 for her, 9 months M.O.T, no advisories. Definitely a shed with thread potential and despite being a very cheap date I was a very happy with her for a number of reasons.
Right now, in view of last nights events in Manchester I'm not in the right mood to talk cars. Maybe later.
To be continued.

If you're trying to preserve some sort of anonymity, I'd probably remove that Photobucket link as I can see lots of other pictures on there.
You Sir Usget are a very good egg. Problems with the internet - normal for Norfolk. Similar issues with Photobucket - normal for me - I.T luddite.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
