I'm considering getting a spacer saver for the E90 Touring I've just bought. It's a 325i M Sport with 18in wheels, but does the wheel size actually matter or do the 16in (or whatever) space savers sold for these work for all sizes?

This might be a silly question, it's rolling diameter that matters, right? How close a match does it need to be to the wheel/tyre combination on the car?

I know that on the E90 330i the 16" don't fit over the brake disks - not sure whether the 325i is in a similar position.

I went to non run flats and decided to get a space saver for the boot - you can get them for about £100 on ebay at 17" - I was lucky and managed to get one of the space saver alloy wheels for about £100 unused which fits over the front brake disks.

You could also consider just get a normal size alloy and holding it in the boot, given you have the touring with more room - all be it still big enough to be a little awkward I guess.

Ring up Cotswold BMW (or online) - they'll sell you a new one, (17"), in a bag, with gloves, etc should you ever need to change it. Bag comes with straps & carabiners so you can clip to the lugs on boot floor. I had one when I had the 335, but it doesn't fit in the z4... So Derek across the road has it now!

Cost around £120 iirc.

I *think* the smaller ones fit the 325i, I've noticed ebay sellers specifically say it's a different one for the 330i, presumably because of those bigger brakes.

I don't think I want a full size wheel. It annoys me enough that I might have to put a spacer saver in the boot! I understand BMW not wanting to include one with every car, but they could at least have made a compartment for one!

Tempting if only for the proper bag! The cheap ebay ones don't include one...

As far as I can make out a 16 inch will work on a 325 (E46 or E9* models) - as has been said 330s need a 17 inch to clear the bigger brakes on the front.

Just a thought but my E46 Compact also has a BMW part that is a bag for the full-size wheel you remove so the boot doesn't get filled with cr*p! It might be worth getting one of those as well - they're just over £5 IIRC.

What about a jack and a wheelbrace?

I finally got around to doing this btw. They were quoting £150ish for just the wheel and £350ish for the whole kit! Rather more than I'm willing to spend...

Have you checked eBay as there appear to be loads?.There are also companies that will sell you everything needed,on the same site.
I've a pretty much unused one that I bought and then purchased an E46 scissor jack and a single wheel bag from eBay.
I'll be selling the lot soon,so auction sites are always worth a look

Yes, in fact I've just cracked and bought one of the new sets on ebay. There are tonnes of wheels listed that claim to fit E90s but which I can't be sure about. I'm going on a trip on Friday and I just want something that will definitely fit.

(Let this be a lesson to me, don't leave it so late...)

How do you remember that issue OP; when you don't seem to know if you had a 335i or 335d? Tw*t!
