Mini Cooper S F56
Discussion
Hi all,
I've been active on here for a year or so but haven't had a thread about my own car as of yet.
I'm nineteen years old, and I've had three cars in my two years of driving. I started off with a Citroen Ds3 DStyle (1.6 vti petrol) however this car developed a number of issues which were becoming a bit too much hassle for me. I kept it for 6 months before trading it in for another Ds3.
This second Ds3 was a much better car, it was lower mileage and came with all the available extras with the exception of satnav. It also had the more powerful 1.6 turbo (155bhp) so made a good 'warm' hatch without getting me into too much trouble. I kept this for a year and a half before part exchanging it for my current car.
Which leads me nicely onto today. Collected this morning after a 2 week wait, my 2015 Mini Cooper S.
I'd decided on an S as my dad has owned both an r53 and r56, both of which I loved. I spent a good couple of months deciding on what spec I was going to try and get as well as what options were available before deciding on a few options that I really wanted as a basis for my next car.
The spec is as follows:
Visual Boost Radio
Harman Kardon HiFi system
JCW sport pack
Mini driving modes
Dynamic Damper Control
Half leather
Chilli Red
I was ideally looking for the LED headlights as well however my search for the exact spec I wanted was proving difficult, so I decided I would compromise as this car had the majority of the options I wanted.
First impressions are that its pretty nippy, makes a grin-inducing noise but can also be quiet and civilized with the eco driving mode enabled which tones everything down and softens up the ride.
Still getting to know the car however its quite apparent that this generation of mini is a fair step up in refinement from the previous two my dad owned. The Harman Kardon Hifi is also excellent however the issue I have now is, do I open the windows and listen to the exhaust? Or close them and listen to my music?
Future plans are an induction kit and an exhaust, possibly a set of wheels as the diamond cut alloys are a bugger to keep in good nick.
Will update as I get a bit more familiar with the car and see how I get on with it.

Looks like the BINIs get a bit of stick on here
Small update...
Back to work this week, first time commuting in the car. I've noticed the steering wheel is slightly off center when the car is going straight (wheel turned slightly left). When I went to see the car one of the rear alloys was curbed, part of the deal was for the alloy to be refurbished. I quickly checked all 4 wheels when I picked the car up and they were all non damaged, however I have noticed that one of my front wheels now has a Bridgestone potenza on it whereas when I first saw and test drove the car it had a matching set of Pirellis.
Not sure why the tyre was changed as no work was being done on said wheel, only the rear one on the opposite side. I've contacted the dealer and will see what they want to do, guessing they will do the tracking and re balance the wheels.

The engines in these can make good power, I hired one for a day last year and it was a hoot

I've a friend running an early F56 Cooper S & solely with a stage 2 remap & Remus exhaust it's running 300 bhp - I've only been a passenger in it, but it's a pretty mad little car! He's also changed the wheels amongst other things.
Remap is on the cards the standard brakes arent up to the task I dont think, will try some performance pads and disks first and see if they improve things to the level where I'd be comfortable bumping up the power. I'd like to retrofit the JCW brembos but I cant justify 1k plus for brakes to be honest! It doesnt have an lsd either, just an electric 'diff' which brakes the inside wheel in turns if the car begins to understeer. Will see if a set of non runflats makes an improvement.

See a green 66 plate JCW on my commute and must say it sounds lovely. It has the LED headlights and I think fogs too and it's VERY bright!
I'm a bit gutted mine doesn't have the LED lights, I looked at having them retrofitted but dealers want nearly 3k! JCW exhaust can be picked up for a much more reasonable cost though
Took the car into the dealer this morning to have the tracking done under warranty, dealer had someone drop me off at work and they are also delivering the car here so I can drive home! Was quite chuffed with the service from them albeit they needed a day to authorize the warranty work (car was looked at yesterday).
Had a quick look through the brochure while I was waiting, eyeing up the JCW Pro exhaust but I'm tempted to have a muffler delete done first and see if its a cheaper alternative. Anyone had this done?
