OK, just got this 'new' 14 blade. Was hoping that the leg burning situation would be an improvement from the 600RR. Unfortunately the exact opposite. Instead, while waiting at the lights, feels like my right calf is like a doner kebab where the rotisserie has stopped working. Truly insane amount of heat. In fact left leg is also pretty hot. Looks like my days of summer afternoon trips to Kingston on the bike wearing shorts, are numbered frown. Rather need asbestos knee socks.

Does anyone else notice this and any suggestions? Do after market exhausts help?

Stop wearing shorts and get some proper bike jeans?

Get a leg amputated then you'll not feel the heat.

Get irradiated with cosmis rays, become the Human Torch and the heat won't bother you wink

The last time I wore shorts on a bike was in Malta 25 years ago. Stopping at a red light just as the radiator fan came on almost stripped the skin off my legs. I now always wear long trousers to protect from engine heat.

IC engines generate heat, and lots of it. There is no way to stop that and the best you can do is reroute it but doing so risks over heating specific areas.

I think the best solution is to wear long trousers.

I sold it because I decided being a puff wasn't for me.

My R1 did this. Jeans were not a good enough barrier on hot days in the city traffic. I just flicked the ignition off at the lights and roasted on slow filtering.

A good slide down the road in shorts will probably leave enough scarring so that you won't feel your flesh burning near a hot exhaust in future. Not a short term solution though.

Don't bother, UB40 were well wide of the mark...

I discovered the issues of heat from the engine/rad in traffic last week, it was extremely unpleasant. Solved it by buying a cheap scooter so I don't have to take the big bike into town anymore hehe

People don't really wear shorts on a bike do they? I'm genuinely staggered. Hot legs is the very least of the OPs concerns if this is true.

^ This exactly. Astonishes me to see shorts/no gloves/trainers on any bike.

On a scooter, yes. I wear shorts doing 50mph on a bicycle quite happily so have no issue doing it when I'm riding to the shops/office/pool. On the motorbike, nope - too many hot bits of metal around, as we have already deduced.

I've honestly never seen anyone in shorts on a motorbike. I cringe when I see people in trainers. I can remember a police man coming into school when I was a kid who passed around cards (because this was pre-projectors) with pictures of people who'd fallen off their bikes in non bike gear. The one that stuck with me was the picture of the chap who'd put his feet down to help the bike stop whilst wearing trainers (gola green flash, so- yknow- good ones). His feet had all but gone.

Very occasionally, on a hot summer's day, going only a few miles down the road on traffic roads and only at low speed. Gimme a break and start talking about the subject at hand, if you please smile

Mate. Please just buy some bike jeans. Please. It'd be awful if you got hurt. And it'd really hurt, too.
