You can pass cooked human off as pig, as long as the customer doesn't see it on the bone.

Just sayin'. wink

Thanks for the insight. I also agree, although my faith is sorely tested recently, there is one god. I have this reasoning i put to all the JH and Mormons who disturb me at home!

I ask them small maths sums eg 1+9,2+8,3+7,4+6 5+5 and tell them what is the correct answer. They they are all right. I then counter there is one god to which they answer yes, and say tell me why is your 5+5 is any better than my 1+9. at which point they mumble a lot and bis me good day

What does sadden me is most of the violence in the world is done under the blanket name of religion. Personally i would respect the IS mob a lot more if the ones that tell those idiots to blow themselves up, to do it themselves to show their faith. Besides just show a picture of Anne Widdecombe and Susan Boyle as examples of real life virgins and i betcha the attacks might diminish!!

Re pork and shellfish, even here shellfish have 'seasons' in which not to eat them, although with refrigeration that has gone out of the window

The only thing that i tend to have a moan about is the ones who complain about the smell of bacon etc when being cooked. The ones who do not integrate into their chosen country of residence.and the ones want to impose their beliefs ( note that belief contains the word 'lie') in a country where although there is a Church of England as the predominant religion, although going downhill fast.
I wonder just how much free speech i would get in an Islamic country should an influx of people demand a church to be built. Sometimes i feel the playing field is not quite level.

I travel a lot and lack of integration is something I see a lot of all over the world. Expats from different countries get together in their own little groups and never fully become part of the society they are in. It's not just a Muslim thing.

I've been to Dubai a few times visiting my sister and I'm going back there later this year. I know of at least 2 churches there, I visited one of them with my Christian wife. It's just a matter of buying a piece of land, applying to the government for permission then building your church. But then, it's down to the individual countries and who's in charge. In Saudi for example, its permitted to be a Christian and pray but they don't allow churches.

Smells like pork, tastes like chicken, apparently. The bones are a give-away, but starving people might not ask too many questions.

"Shame about Ahmad staying behind at that oasis, he'd have loved this pork."
"It was a lucky find though, a wild pig in the middle of a desert!"
hehe

Can you answer a broadly related question? An old friend converted and spent some time in Malaysia with his inlaws. His wife's uncle was drinking (like a fish, his words) at a family party (outside of Ramadan)

My friend expressed confusion, but his wife said that it was "sort of ok, but her Uncle's prayers would not be heard for 40 days"

Is this a fair approximation?
Alcohol is definitely forbidden for muslims.

The "40 day rule" is basically to do with the view that alcohol stays in the blood for 40 days. i.e. if you drink alcohol then you're not technically a muslim. And if the alcohol stays in your body for 40 days then that's the time period that you can't be a muslim for. And if you're not a muslim then Allah can't/won't hear your prayers...

Hope that makes sense smile

We are all indocrinated. Every single one of us. From primary school upwards on many aspects of our lives. Infact every aspect. How to behave, how to eat, how to greet someone. Where to work, etc.

To simply say religion and indoctrination is wrong.

You can leave a religion. It can mean though you leave your social group or family.
That's any colour or background.

There is a cathederal & a few churches here in Kuwait. The same in Bahrain. There's even a synagogue in Bahrain, that the Emir offered to fund the preservation of. Plenty of synagogues in Iran

Well, while you Muslims are fasting for 30 days, I'll be stuffing my face with cheesecake on Tuesday night for Shavuot! smile
Still, I know how hard fasting for daylight hours is. I just don't have to do it for 30 days in a row yikes
Try a 25 hour fast combined with a long walk on a Florida beach though... in summer. Now that is painful. thumbup

So a smart Muslim knows that if s/he has a beer it will actually be out of their blood in a few hours so actually they're only risking a few hours of not being a Muslim? You could go for a post prayer half pint and be completely clean by the next prayer time?!

I couldn't do the no drinking thing. I know there are plenty of non Muslim teetotallers but it's too tall an ask for me. Food and wine are inseparable and hot days demand cold beers!

FWIW I don't think the 40 hour rule is accepted by most muslims. My guess is that it was invented by somebody who fancied a drink and made it up as they went along... which could possibly be said about Religion in general..... smile

The bridge from Saudi to Bahrain isn't called the Johnny Walker bridge for nothing.

I don't doubt that there are as many folks from other religions breaking tenants of that religion as there are Muslims drinking booze on the (perhaps not so) QT. Swings and roundabouts isn't it.

FWIW i had to give up alcohol; completely 12 years ago. It's perhaps harder for the first few months but its not an issue at all now. Other people going on about 'surely you can just have one tho' and the like is far more irritating than not drinking.

Never fails to amaze me how some intelligent people get sucked into religious cults. I'm close to a family that fell apart when a very intelligent daughter was snared by a crackpot Christian church. She tells me carrots are the work of the devil. As is yoga.

Everything forward and trust in the Lord.
